Paul Wakim Obituary

Paul Wakim CHARLESTON - Paul Wakim, 94, of Charleston, SC. He was born to the late Elias and Takla Wakim, on October 8, 1921, in Kingstree, South Carolina. Paul graduated from Kingstree High School in 1939 and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Maryland. He married Marie Angotti in 1958, and they lived together in Charleston, SC, before relocating to North Carolina, and then Florida, finally returning to Charleston in 1983. Paul was a Credit Manager for Sears Roebuck and Company for over 20 years, until he began a career in banking and financial services. Paul was a Vice President at First Federal of Charleston until he retired. He was excited to go to work every day and enjoyed working alongside his colleagues and mentoring younger individuals in the credit and collections business. Paul was a devout Catholic who went to Mass every Sunday. He enjoyed cooking breakfast and making biscuits and eggs and grits for his wife and children and their families and friends. One of his specialties was barbecued chicken on the grill. Paul was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his son, Paul, play basketball while growing up. Paul was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the South Carolina Gamecocks, and enjoyed watching their games on television. He was an avid solver of crosswords and regularly finished the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle after Marie would get the puzzle started. He was an extraordinary dancer, and ladies would line up to ask him for a dance. Paul passed from this earth on November 6th, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Paul is survived by his wife, Marie, and his three children and three grandchildren: Tina Wakim (Glenn Caudill), of Atlanta, GA; Joanne Wakim of Washington, DC; and Paul and Rebecca (Vick) Wakim of Lawrenceville, GA; Paul Theodore, Benjamin Christopher, and Olivia Marie Wakim.
