Paul Pelton Obituary

Paul Pelton Summerville - Paul Leroy Pelton, 89, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully on Monday March 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family and friends. The relatives and friends of Paul Pelton are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Paul was born in Lockport Illinois; he was the son of the late Dewy and Evelyn (Pemberton) Pelton and brother of the late Jim Pelton and Beula May Pelton. Paul attended Lockport high school and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He did his basic training to be an aircraft mechanic in Texas. He served at Mather Field, Sacramento, CA; Prestwick AB, Glasgow, Scotland; Tinker AFB, Midwest City, OK; Rhein-Main AFB, Frankfurt, Germany; and Grissom AFB, Kokomo, Indiana. Paul loved sharing stories of his life as a young airman. His favorite story, however, was how he met and married his wife, Ellen. He loved talking about his time in Prestwick, how Ellen stole his heart, and how he stole Grany Hall's heart. He spoke often of how much he cherished his new family. Hearing stories of Aunt Patricia and all the gang and their adventures brought great joy to his loved ones. Paul served in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star. After his work there was declassified in 2002, Paul started sharing stories of his experiences. The bravery, humor, and love he and his fellow soldiers shared was incredible. After retiring from the USAF, Paul moved his family to Summerville, SC and began working for the USPS in Charleston SC, retiring in his early 60s. In his retirement, Paul stayed busy working on various home renovation and gardening projects. Paul and Ellen both had the blessing of staying in their home with the assistance of Lorraine's Helping Hands and the support of caring neighbors in the community. Thank you all. Paul is survived by his five children: Anthony (Shelia) Pelton, Andrew (Lynne) Pelton, Colin Pelton, Sharon (Tilton) Prater, and Karen (Jim) Dupont; fifteen grandchildren: Aubrey, Dillon, Blair, Amy, Sara, Andrew, Jacob, Olivia, Tony, David, James, Tiffany, Brittany, Olivia, and Quentin; and 14 great-grandchildren.
