Patrick Malone Obituary

Patrick Henry Malone PORT ROYAL, SC - Patrick Henry Malone passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022, after a long illness. Patrick was born on March 17, 1950, in Baltimore, MD, the youngest of three children. Patrick graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 1968, the same year he joined the Army National Guard. He continued his studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Patrick once said that being born on St. Patrick's Day was, for a third generation Irish-American, like winning the birthday lottery. He was a free spirit who loved adventure, living in several states, Ireland and England before settling in Charleston, SC, in 1982 to manage operations in the yarn industry. After a dozen years, he was hired by the Bayer Corporation for the procurement of raw materials in their rubber chemicals division. Patrick retired as senior buyer and supply chain analyst at Lanxess Corporation in 2015. Patrick loved being near the water, the sand between his toes, and making the most of every moment with his wife of 14 years, Pippa. Patrick and Pippa welcomed friends and family into their home which was full of laughter and fun. Together they made every day an adventure. Patrick said, "When I take the time to reflect on my life, the crossroads like stars on a moonless night sparkle in my mind, a galaxy of experiences that have rendered joy, pain, love, heartbreak, but never regret. Regret for me would have been never making choices, living with the fear that change might bring." He truly lived in the present, savoring each day and embracing joy in all things big and small. He loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived fully. He will be deeply missed by all who love him. Patrick was a recent resident of Port Royal, SC. He is survived by his loving wife, Philippa Genevieve Malone (nee Rice) Malone; his sister, Dorothy Kolakowski (nee Malone); his three loving nieces, Maura Taylor (Mike), Bethany DeLude (Mike), and Cara Kolakowski-Jacobs (Chris); many great-nieces and -nephews, and a multitude of dear cousins, especially Mary Jo Gubricky and Jack Booker. In addition to his childhood pals from southwest Baltimore, Wayne McDowell, Tony Armstrong and Herbie Lindsay, Patrick will be sorrowfully missed by his constant companion and ever faithful pet pug, Mugsy Malone. He is predeceased by his his parents, Doris (Curley) and Henry Malone; his sister, Carol Malone. A mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict's Church on Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore on June 17 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carol Malone Excellence in Teaching Endowment Fund at Maryvale Preparatory School, 11300 Falls Road, Lutherville, MD 21093.
