Patrick Hunkler Obituary

Patrick Albert Hunkler ANDERSON, SC - Patrick Albert Hunkler, 22, passed away on April 3, 2022 as the result of a tragic car accident in Anderson, SC. Patrick was born in Mt. Pleasant, SC on January 17, 2000 to Sarah Eileen Frey and Patrick Gerard Hunkler. He graduated from Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC and attended Clemson University, where he was the recipient of a full scholarship to study engineering. Patrick's aptitude for engineering emerged early when he discovered a love of building with Legos, which continued until his collection of completed sets was so extensive that it required its own room. Patrick excelled in the sport of taekwondo, earning the coveted second-degree black belt and sharing his skills with both youth and adults as an instructor and a member of the program's leadership team. Inspired by his father's military career, he immersed himself in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) throughout high school. In addition to his parents, survivors include his paternal grandmother, Donna Jean Hunkler of Fort Wayne, IN, his maternal grandparents, Eric and Susan Frey of Terre Haute, IN, aunts and uncles, including Tom Hunkler (Cynthia) of Ft. Wayne IN, Tim Hunkler (Shelby) of Alexandria, IN, Mike Hunkler (Melinda) of Nashville, TN, Mark Hunkler (Ronda) of Garret, IN, Phil Hunkler (Sherry) of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Barry (Kevin) of Bonita Springs, FL, Eric Frey II (Cindy) of Columbus, IN, and Jonathan Frey of Terre Haute, IN, as well as 40 cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Louis "Thomas" Hunkler. A memorial service and communion will be held Monday, April 11 at 10:30 am at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC. A lunch reception will follow at Alhambra Hall, 131 Middle St, Mt. Pleasant, SC.
