Patrick Eudy Obituary

Patrick Eudy CHARLESTON - Patrick Lloyd Eudy's 44 years were packed with the kind of exploits most people only dream about and few achieve. When his twin engine plane crashed during a training flight Thursday (June 20), taking the lives of Pat and flight instructor Robert Ulrich, 69, it brought short a list of achievements that everyone around him expected to only grow longer. As a businessman, Pat was founder and CEO/President of Matthews, NC-basedAmerican Broadband Communications, which acquires rural companies providing telecommunications and associated services. He also participated in numerous philanthropies and was widely known for his generosity to friends and others in need. Pat credited proximity to the ocean as one of the reasons he and his family moved to the Charleston area, with homes in Charleston and Kiawah Island. He lived in nearby Mt. Pleasant at the time of his death. Throughout the summer, Pat could be found most Wednesdays on the boat he called "Big Booty" sailing the Charleston-area waters. His passion for sailing and racing were frequently the focus of conversations, with adventures ranging from a sail through the Bermuda Triangle to island sailing in the Caribbean. And when not on the water, Pat could be found flying one of his three planes, recording thousands of flying hours in air travel for business or traveling with his family. But Pat saved his greatest enthusiasm for his family: Jane Rountree Eudy, his wife of 19 years; Mary Alexander Eudy, 13; William Lloyd Eudy, 12; Katherine Elizabeth Eudy, 9; and John Patrick Eudy, 7. They were his greatest joy and he poured his energy and enthusiasm for living into every moment they were together. Pat, who attended Vanderbilt University and the University of North Carolina, also is survived by his mother, Mary Ward Eudy Berini, and two brothers, Bruce Eudy and Keith Eudy, all of whom live in Durham, NC. He was predeceased by his father Bobby Lloyd Eudy and his stepfather Joe F. Berini. A memorial service and reception will be held at 4pm Wednesday, June 26 at the Carolina Yacht Club of Charleston. Deepest sympathy to his family. Although I had not seen Pat since his days at Vanderbilt, I am honored to have been associated with him. In the brief time I knew him, he was always determined to focus on his career but was always enjoying life at full speed with friends. He will be missed.

I was one of Pat's many friends at Carolina. We hadn't seen each other in years and I was sad to hear of his passing. I was with Pat in the aftermath of a bad car accident he was in just before graduation. Even then his primary concern was for his family and friends. I am glad he never lost that uniquely generous spirit. My deepest condolences to his family

To Jane and children, My heart absolutely aches for the loss of Pat. What a guy who lived and accomplished in 44 years what most of us never see and do in a lifetime. He loved his beautiful children and they adored him. It is to those children that I send my heart and prayers and please know that your dad's memory is eternal, no one can take those precious memories from you. I wish a long, healthy and fruitful life for Mary, Will, Elizabeth and Jack and whatever you boys and girls do with your lives, you will make your dad proud. Let his love for you guide you. May GOD rest his soul.
