Patricia Smith Obituary

Patricia "Patty" Edwards Smith Charlotte, NC - Patricia (Patty) Edwards Smith, 82, wife of Ronald LeNoell Smith, of Charlotte, NC, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 22, 2022. Patty was the oldest child of the late Allen and Polly Edwards of Cheraw, SC. Patty is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ron; daughter, Trish Black (Ben) of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Noell Smith (Susan) of Daniel Island, SC; and grandchildren, Caroline Black, Andrew Black, Sarah Legare Smith, and Betsy Smith; as well as her brother, Allen Edwards (Sue Bunney) of Mount Pleasant; and sister, Sara Rollison (Tom Hassett) of Blackshear, GA; nephew, Walt Kennerly (Brandi) of Saint Simons Island, GA; and their children, Heyward, Hudson, Mabry, and Polly. Patty was born October 15, 1939, in Bennettsville, South Carolina. After growing up in Cheraw, SC, she graduated from Winthrop College, and moved to Charlotte to begin her career as an administrative assistant. She and Ron met while both were working at Belk Stores Services in Charlotte. She later worked at North Carolina National Bank. Patty was an active member of the Charlotte Symphony Women's Association and volunteered for many years on the Symphony Designer House and Nutcracker Ballet committees. Patty was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years. She was a former member of the Wesley Sunday school class and the Martha Circle. It was through the Symphony Designer House that Patty met her "Lunch Bunch" friends and through the church that Patty and Ron met their "Dinner Group" friends. Patty loved her family above all and was a devoted wife and mother. Patty and Ron spent many weekends sailing with the children on Lake Norman or vacationing together at Ocean Isle Beach. She was known as "GrandPatty" to her precious grandchildren and shared her love for them with chocolate pie and sugar cookies. The family would like to thank Patty's favorite nurse, Margaret Lee, of Lutheran Hospice and the loving staff of Franke at Seaside. A memorial service for Patty will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC, and will be livestreamed on the church's website at myersparkumc.org.
