Patricia "Pat" Boggs Marks MT. PLEASANT - Patricia 'Pat' Boggs Marks, "Nana" to her family, died peacefully in her home on October 19th. 2025. Friends and family knew her gracious presence and kind company. Pat's faith set the quiet rhythm of her life. She was an astute listener, deeply curious, and endlessly interested in others. Most of her life was lived in South Carolina, but her voice, warm and lilting, always carried the melody of her Virginia roots. You just wanted to hear her talk! Born in Richmond, Virginia, on Nov.19, 1933, to Ruby and Thomas Boggs, Pat grew up with her older brother, Tommy, in Scottsville and Hampton, VA, and graduated from Hampton High School and Westhampton College in Richmond. She married Richard D. Marks Jr. in 1956 in Crozet, Virginia. She moved with him to Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Slocum, New York, and Fort Dix, New Jersey, while he served as a U.S. Army Medical Officer, and Pat worked as an elementary school teacher. Together they scoured the Northeast for antiques while falling in love with the New England coast and its historic structures. In 1962, Pat and Dick settled in Scottsville, VA, where they raised three children and Dick ran a family medical practice. In 1972, they moved to Sullivan's Island and later Mt. Pleasant, SC, when Dick began a career at the Medical University of SC. Pat enjoyed raising her children and renovating historic houses with Dick, while always cooking for, and entertaining family and friends, grateful for her amazing culinary skills. Her kitchen was her domain, often filled with the aroma of something wonderful and overflowing with cookbooks on shelves and numerous notebooks of handwritten recipes. She also loved her Bible studies, her St. Andrews Church family, and her Old Village community, places where she formed lasting friendships and found much joy. She lived out her faith in gentle and generous ways, never met a stranger and always made time for people above all else. After Dick's retirement, they spent summers on Isle au Haut, a tiny island in coastal Maine, that became their true second home. On Isle au Haut, they found another church family in Union Congregational Church and made some of their most cherished friendships. Never in a hurry, Pat truly mastered being present and living in the moment" before it was popular. She often said, You know, the interruptions in the day might be the most important thing, in a voice serious and fluid but also kind and wise. Her incredible faith and dedicated prayer life were central to her being, and she was a mentor to many who spent time with her. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was the most gracious host with a wonderful Virginia accent and a loving, Godly spirit. She is survived by her sister-in-law and dearest friend, Kay Dupre Boggs; her Children, Melissa Marks Williams (Bruce), Richard Dunn Marks III (Margi), Anne Marks Jones (Sam); six grandchildren, Jonathan (Katie), Richard (Alex), Morgan, Louise, Sam, Virginia; four great grandchildren, Ellie, Caroline, Austin and Maeve.
