Patricia Austin Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Austin Charleston - Patricia "Pat" Austin, 95, of Charleston, SC, widow of Lowell W. "Bill" Austin, entered into eternal rest July 11, 2022. All services will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. Pat was born May 6, 1927, in La Porte, Indiana, daughter of the late Donald Nipple and Vera Clawson Nipple. She was a graduate of Indiana University, earning her Bachelor's degree in social work. She married Bill and moved to Weirton, WV, where she used her education and passion for helping others by working with adoptions in Hancock County, WV until her children were born. Pat was a kind, loving and helpful person and was a good neighbor and friend; she was an active parent and a troop leader for the Camp Fire Girls. Pat retired from the American Lung Association in Wheeling, WV, where she was a representative for the northern portion of the state. She and Bill moved to Florida full- time after being "snowbirds" for many years. She was a voracious reader, and volunteered for 25 years at the Ormond Beach, FL Public Library. Pat loved genealogy and traced her family's heritage back hundreds of years. She was an avid fitness enthusiast and followed Jack LeLanne and his TV fitness program. She also walked 3.5 miles every day for 30 years and later rode her adult tricycle through her Florida neighborhood daily until the age of 89! Pat is survived by two daughters, Diane Elaine Owens of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Janet Austin Mueller (Tom) of Temple Terrace, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dona.
