Pamela Hendrix Obituary

Pamela Maddex Hendrix Kiawah Island, SC - Pamela Maddex Hendrix, 74, of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, wife of Leon James "Bill" Hendrix, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, while surrounded by her family. Pam was born March 8, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, daughter of Robert Malcolm Maddex and Louise Smith Maddex. She grew up in Camden, South Carolina, and graduated from Winthrop University. Pam was a fiercely loyal and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She liked nothing better than spending time with her family, particularly at her Kiawah home, Clemson football games, or while traveling abroad. Pam had a zest for life and a quest for knowledge. She was admired for her creativity and flair in preparing a meal, decorating a room or table, and planning and hosting outstanding parties. She was a great conversationalist and made each person feel like the guest of honor. Traveling and learning about other cultures was her passion, leading her to make multiple visits to five different continents. Pamela is survived by her husband of 50 years, Leon James "Bill" Hendrix, Jr.; three daughters, Jill Ganzenmueller (Thorsten) of Potsdam, Germany, Joy Yonce (Chad) of Charleston, SC, and Holly Cirrito (Michael) of Chevy Chase, MD; a son, Leon James "Jim" Hendrix, III (Elizabeth) of Greenville, SC; ten grandchildren, Jasper & Ben Ganzenmueller; Henry & Pamela Yonce; Will, Malcolm & Charlie Cirrito; Billy, Tucker & Louise Hendrix; brother-in-law, Guy Hendrix; sister-in-law, Lisa Hendrix; nephew, Emory Hendrix (Martha); and niece, Mary Kathleen Hendrix. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road, at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will be held at Woodland Cemetery, Clemson University. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. Memorials may be made to Clemson University Foundation: The Pamela Maddex Hendrix "Dream Jar" Study Abroad Endowment at P.O. Bill, Jill, Joy, Holly and Jim,

I'm so sorry that I can't make it to Pam's funeral. She was a great part of our family and an incredible lady who spread joy wherever she went. Warm, loving, nurturing, delightful, creative, fun and the consummate hostess all words that come to mind. She was truly lovely inside and out.

I remember all the family fun we had growing up going to North Myrtle Beach and staying together at the Buccaneer Motel before you had your own place. Pam taught me how to dance the Shag and helped me overcome my fear of sharks in the ocean.

We are sending you our love during this difficult time. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her well.

Much love,
Susan

Dearest Bill, Jill, Thorsten, Joy, Chad, Holly, Michael, Jim and Elizabeth. Jasper, Ben, Henry,Pamela, Will, Malcolm, Charlie, Billy, Tucker and Louise,
My sadness over your loss is profound. To me Pam was the embodiment of a glamorous, supportive, fun loving wife and the most magnificent mother and grandmother I have ever met.
My only son Michael is the luckiest guy in the world to have had Pam as his mother-in law.
My sweets memories of Pam go back to the spring/ summer of 2002. Being a northerner I knew nothing about being part of a Southern wedding. Pam welcomed me with open arms and outrageous enthusiasm. My entire family has never forgotten the occasion of Holly and Michael s wedding with an emphasis on Pam s hospitality.
Pam always made me smile, whether we were celebrating the births of our three grandsons, sharing Christmas together, Clemson football or just easy conversation.
I will miss you.
