Oveta Pendergrast Obituary

Learning of Veta’s passing was a Big Pill to swallow. I’m still trying to comprehend this reality. I’m speechless and don’t know what I could say to ease her family’s pain.

She was a good Sista friend and I loved her feisty spirit! She took care of me when I was away from home for the first time. Her family embraced me and loved me like I was family. Thank you for always showing me kindness and sharing Oveta with me and the world.

Her laughter was infectious and time spent with Veta always meant a good time! You couldn’t get mad with her cause she’d always made you think about what was right. Always the diplomat.

I’m so grateful we got to spend time together in DC in 2007. We learned a lot about who we’d both become and the power of the mother daughter relationship. Family was everything to her and before long she got homesick and returned to her native Charleston.

I/We will miss her Kool-Aid smile and her boisterous laugh but she‘s in heaven now watching over US!!!

May God continue to watch over The Pendergrast Family.

My fondest memory of Vita is when she would step in the room, wherever she went,dressed to a tee,and beautiful to boot,turning heads..You were and still loved by many. Your confident stride has been a trademark that set trends for a lot of the younger ladies growing up on Liberty Hill.
