Oscar Wilkerson Obituary
WILKERSON, III, Oscar Oscar Albert Wilkerson, III, husband of Mary Piercy Hodgkinson Wilkerson, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died February 11, 2005. Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Wednesday morning, February 16, 2005 at ten o'clock.. Burial will be Saturday, February 19, 2005 at two o'clock in Old School Baptist Church Cemetery, Hopewell, NJ. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mr. Wilkerson was born in Rahway, NJ on April 14, 1935, son of Oscar Arthur Wilkerson, Jr. and Marian Perkins Wilkerson. He was Senior Vice-President of Finance and Administration at Smith Industries in Montgomery, AL where he also served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Wilkerson was a graduate of Hamilton College and received his MBA from New York University. He served as Lt. Commander with the US Naval Intelligence. While living in Montgomery, AL, Mr. Wilkerson was extremely active in the community. He served as Chairman of the Board for Montgomery City County Public Library where he was instrumental in the building of three new libraries. He also served on the board of Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce; served on Board of Directors for Montgomery Area United Way; was president of Good Morning Kiwanis Club of Montgomery; as well as president of Community Concerts. Mr. Wilkerson was married to M.P. Wilkerson, former Arts and Travel Editor and Food Critic for the Montgomery Advertiser newspaper. Surviving are his wife, M.P. Wilkerson, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, Oscar Arthur Wilkerson, IV (Chip) of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Taylor H. Wilkerson of Kensington, MD; one daughter, Brooke E. Wilkerson of Brunswick, ME; and five grandchildren, Oscar A. Wilkerson, V, Britta Baker Wilkerson, Anna Hart Wilkerson, Lucy Anne Wilkerson and Andrew Taylor Wilkerson.
