Ophelia McSwain Howell CHARLESTON - Ophelia McSwain Howell, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Charles Herman Howell went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 5, 2012. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy., Charleston. Mrs. Howell was born April 12, 1924 in Great Falls, South Carolina, daughter of Dube Carrol McSwain and Ruby Sellars McSwain. She was a retired Secretary and member of Church Creek Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, of 68 years Charles Howell of Charleston, SC, son, James M. Arthur and wife Penny of Union, SC, son, Charles H. Howell Jr. and wife Carol of Charleston, SC, daughter, Deborah R. Baskin and husband Barry of Charleston, SC, two sisters, Grace McClain of Rock Hill, SC and, Thetis McNeese of Miami, FL, five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three great-granchildren. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Mae McColough and Carolyn McSwain and a brother, Edward McSwain.
