O'Neal Seward Obituary

Deacon O'Neal C. Seward COLUMBIA, SC - Homegoing Service for Deacon O' Neal C. Seward, Sr. will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1028 Eastman Street, in Columbia, South Carolina, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Deacon Seward went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025. Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, 2 - 6 PM, at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home. Born in Williamsburg County, Mr. Seward attended the public schools of North Charleston, SC. Receiving several Athletic Scholarship opportunities, he chose to enrolled in South Carolina State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, later participating in the Master of Science Degree Program for Special Education. In 1966, Deacon Seward was hired as the Head Football and Basketball coach at Alston High School in Summerville, SC, 1967 to 1969, and he was hired as Head Football coach at Beck High School, where he led his team to a 14 and 2 record; 1970-71, and was Head Football, Basketball and Baseball coach at Burke High School in Charleston, SC and had a very successful year in all sports. The basketball team had a 26-0 record averaging 97 points per game and the Baseball and Basketball teams were the Lower-State Championships. At the end of the 1970 season, Deacon Seward was recruited as the First Black Inter-City Service Director for the Boy Scouts of America in Charleston, SC and attended the National Executive Institute in Mendham New Jersey. He was then employed with Michelin Tire Company in Greenville, SC, where he received many achievements. Deacon O'Neal Seward devoted his life to working in the communities in which he lived and to better the life of others. Deacon Seward was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church Deacon Ministry and many other organizations within Bethlehem and his community. His is survived by his wife, Robin J. Seward; daughters, Charlese O. Seward and Roslyn J. Seward; son, O'Neal C. Seward II; siblings, Curtis, Leon (Cleonis), Randolph, Thomasina, Larry (Andre), Nancy, Donnie, Bernard Seward and Fayetta (Bernard) James; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
