Norvell Cotner Obituary

Norvell Edward Cotner CHARLESTON - Entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 7, 2010, Chief Petty Officer Norvell Edward Cotner USN (Ret.) husband of the late Mildred Rose (Rosie) Beane Cotner of Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services at The International Church of God, formerly West Ashley Church of God, 1560 Ashley River Road, Saturday morning, February 13, 2010, at eleven o'clock. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Friday from five until seven o'clock. Norvell was born February 13, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. The son of Norvell Pinkard Cotner and Irene Julia Brazier Cotner. He attended schools in St. Louis, MO. He joined the Navy in 1943 and retired in 1964. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 50 and Retired Enlisted Men's Association. He served on the ships Lyman K. Swenson DD 729 and Robert H. McCard DD 822. He was a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and a retired Inspection Foreman of the Polaris Missile Facility. He was a member of International Church of God and a former Square Dance Caller. Mr. Cotner is survived by two sons Les Cotner and wife Ann Cotner of Summerville, SC, Ron Cotner and wife Penny Cotner of CA; one brother Floyd Cotner of Glennside, PA; two sisters Sandra Dielschmeider of Imperial, PA., and Bernadine Randal of Skidmore, MO; a beloved niece and nephew, Romuald and Linda Lankosz. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association Research and Clinical Program, MUSC, 3900 Core Rd., North Charleston, SC 29406 A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website, www.jhenrystuhr.com.
