Mrs. Smith, (Merinda), I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Norman loved you very much.
I met Norman at Muni, and played golf with him several times. I really enjoyed our rounds together, and always looked forward to the next. It was a shock for me to hear of his sudden passing. I miss him. He talked about you often. I almost quit golf thinking how different it would be without him on the course, but I played yesterday, the 29th of May. I was not the same, but I have many good memories and thought of him often during the round. I consider him a good friend even though I did not know him very long. He was kind and compassionate. I had a brain infection a few years ago, and so I still struggle a bit cognitively from time to time. In spite of that, Norman was always very gracious to me, and I enjoyed his sense of humor. If I can be of help to you in this time of grief, please do not hesitate to email or call me. My number is 843 709 9274.

My deepest condolences to Merinda and Norman's family. My uncles Norman and Lowell were my heros when I was very young. Brave men who flew fighter jets, and told funny, slightly off color stories. Norman was very kind to me, and I'll keep him and the family in my prayers. God Bless. Buzz Feiten

He was a dear friend and neighbor to my
parents in SC and MN. He was an encouragement to me during Dad's, Buds illness. He would ride his bike over and spend time with Dad often. He would fill Dad's golf ball basket to continue that tradition, even to this May. He was an amazing friend, a man who showed the love of Jesus in his actions. In all he did and with whomever he shared a moment. He left an impression. His love for his bride and his kids was deep and loving. He would beam with delight. But he would just light up when sharing about his family. A gentleman who we will deeply miss. May God bless you, his family and keep you. So sorry for your loss.

I was shocked and saddened when I learned of Norm's passing upon my return from a road trip. It was early this morning when I arrived at the Muni when one of the "Rascals" told me the sad news. The first thing I look for every time I got to the Muni is Norm's Buick wondering what story I might hear from Norman's rich full life. He was truly a joyful person, fun to be around and he will be greatly missed. Tally ho and God speed my friend.

Dear Family: I was saddened today to hear that Norman had died. Norman and I played with the Rascals at Muni on a regular basis. I always enjoyed his friendship and sense of humor. I will miss both. My condolence to you in this sad time. May God's spirit comfort you. Sincerely, John Ollis

Merinda, words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. In recent years we have not been that close due to geography and my work schedule. In the last couple of years my free time was spent largely with me trying to visit and help with my dad, but that is no excuse. Since Lowell passed last August, Norman had been doing yeoman's work trying to help us settle dad's estate and for that I will be eternally grateful. I am sorry that I cannot make the services, but please know that you, Wain, Julie and Stacey will be in my thoughts and prayers. I have a lifetime of fond memories of Norman as well as the rest of you and our families. He was a good man and he will be missed.

Dear "Merin" and family , Norman was a great friend and competitor as well. We always enjoyed the activities we shared at Association Board meetings. We cherished those moments and Toska and I always sought opportunities to spend time together. Norm and I shared many good times as guest at golf outings and fishing trips. After retirement we visited Sea Island and Charleston and laughed a lot -- a LOT. So many fond memories ! Rest well , Norman and God Bless you Merinda ! Toska and Barry Quinnies

Cherie and I had the pleasure of meeting Norm while attending Johns Island Presbyterian church 11 years ago. He reached out to us with very welcoming words and made us feel at home. We even had a Fargo, ND connection through his Grandson. I got to know Norm as years went on and was so impressed with his confidence, openness and understanding of life. We will miss Norm and wish Merinda the peace.

He always walked tall as a proud Marine (the softest one you could ever imagine) and he walked - Ocean Point to pro shop. I earlier days he only used irons on the golf course, but he competed. We were in Island Choraliers together - he biked to rehearsal. Real gentleman. Hard to believe we'll never cross putters again, Condolences to the family. The bugler plays Taps for a friend.

Norm was a really fine person and " one who never met a stranger", always willing to talk and share life's stories. He will surely be missed by his many golf buddies at Charleston Muni.

Dear Merinda and family, I had the pleasure to work for your Norman for 15years. I was just a young kid learning the business and I couldn't have had a better teacher. He taught me to dress well, act professionally at all times, treat vendors just like customers and your co-workers even better. I admired how he took a personal interest in vendors just like his co-workers. He was tough but fair at all times. I run my business today on the principals he taught me, and that is why we were both successful. I miss the Vincent Christmas parties at North Oaks, you were great hosts. God Bless you all during this time. Your strong faith will carry you through. Terry Jeddeloh

Rarely do we encounter a soul as warm, kind, and sincere as Norm's. He was always so helpful to my parents especially when my father's health was failing. I will always remember Norm with deep sincere fondness and I will miss his quick and witty sense of humor. My deepest condolences to Merinda and to his family. I am certain Norm will be painfully missed. God bless his soul.

Dearest Merinda and family -
You and Norman were the aunt and uncle with whom I had the closest bond as Norman was my mother's youngest brother. In one of the earliest photos of me, Norman is holding me. I was flower girl in your wedding. Norman taught me to drive Mom's VW Beetle stick shift. Merinda and I went to the same high school (at different times). I babysat for your kids and remember when every one of them was born. Norman gave me a great deal of family history to make my genealogy search for the Smith family so thorough. You have both been part of my life and memories for a very long time and even though we didn't see each other regularly, when we did, it was always a warm and welcoming visit. The memories of the times you shared will help you through this incredibly difficult time, but you are a strong family and will help support each other, too. Love you all!
