Norma Puig Obituary

Norma Puig MT. PLEASANT - Norma Puig, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home. A private ceremony will be held later when the family can gather together. Norma was born in Santiago, Chile in 1932, the daughter of Ana and Juan Barrera. A former model, Norma was a designer and learned from Flavia Chuto, who apprenticed with Jean Patou. She opened her own boutique in Santiago, but left due to unrest in Chile in 1973. She continued to design and sew for Piera Ferrari in Caracas, Venezuela. The family eventually moved to Puerto Rico, and there she found her fashions highlighted in the papers each month. Norma designed the gown for Miss Universe 1993, Dayanara Torres. After moving to Charleston to be closer to her son, she continued to design and sew locally for many years. She is survived by her husband, Roberto; sons, Roberto and wife Lorraine, Baltasar and wife Becky; daughter, Normy Witt and husband Verner, and adopted daughter, Linda Puig. Grandchildren include: Constanze Witt (Klaus Larsen), Velentine Witt, Roberto Puig, James Puig (Krista Ross), and Fiona Puig. Great-grandchildren are: Orson Witt, Nima Larsen, and Hadley Puig. Brothers and sisters in Chile are: Juan, Hugo, Gladys and Betty Barrera. The family wants to express special thanks to Roper St. Francis Hospice for their great care and kindness, especially Lynn. Thank you to all those participating in the Alzheimer's walks for Team Moma, especially the Ross and Compton families. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to the Alzheimer's Association. For all who knew and loved Norma or Moma, she embodied love in many ways. She loved her husband, Roberto, for 54 years, they were a devoted couple who inspired us with their dedication and patience...she loved and encouraged her sons and daughter, delighted in her grandsons and granddaughters, and found joy in her sweet great-grandchildren. She will leave a lasting impression as a beautiful, spirited and creative woman, who will remind us of our best selves. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/charleston
