Once again, it is a privilege to recall Father Nick, the wonderful person who made my stay in Charleston one of the most meaningful of my life while I was a cadet at the Citadel. He was as beloved as he was respected and a wonderful man as well as a great pastor for the community he led.

A day to remember a wonderful man who impacted many of us at the Citadel. I recall his warmth and kindness, a personification of paternal and fraternal love that helped make my four-year stay in Charleston among the most special of my life. He was a wonderful representative of Charleston´s Greek community which he led.

This is the anniversary of the passing of Father Nicholas Trivelas, someone who was, I believe, very special to all of us at the Citadel while he was our pastor, he certainly was to me. He was kind, caring and considerate as well as intelligent with a sweet sense of humor. I am very grateful that he played a part in our lives. Just wanted to share those memories on the anniversary of his passing.

Father Trivelas was a very special mentor and friend during my four years at the Citadel (Fall of 1964 through Spring of 1968) where he would accompany our small Greek Orthodox group on Sundays, providing us with counsel and advice, and opened his home and family to us. Through him, I was incorporated into the wonderful Greek community in Charleston whose members always made me feel that I was a native son. He was an exemplary human being in every sense, full of love, generosity and humor. We all loved him very much.

I was blessed to have known Father Nick. He had a wonderful voice and my memory of him has sustained me when I moved around the country because of the Navy and most recently when I was very ill. He was truly a dedicated, sincere priest who touched many lives and his memories and thoughtfulness will live on in all of those he touched.

October 21, 2008

To all the members of Father Nicholas C. Trivelas' family and to all
who have been touched by a wonderful, loving, sincere and truly a dedicated priest who has left a tremendous void in many lives and
members of Holy Trinity.

I believe this is what Father Nick would say to everyone at this time.

To those I love and those who love me.

When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to say and do. You must not tune yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many beautiful years.

I gave to you my love, you can only guess, how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you have shown, but now it's time that I travel on alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust;
It's only for a while that we must
part. So keep the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will
come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love, soft and clear.

And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with open arms and say, "Welcome Home."

I was blessed to have worked with
such a Pater for many years who was truly a man of the cloth.

Father Nick cannot be outdone from what we all learned from him regarding our faith, music, stories, life (and his great humor). We were very fortunate to have had Father Nick as our Spiritual Leader for 60 years.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
May his memory be eternal.
Rest in peace, Pater

Dear Dusty, Carrie, Chris, Faye and Nick:

Please accept my most heartfelt and deepest sympathy in the loss of "Pater".

He was an exceptional person and all of us of the "Holy Trinity" community in Charleston were truly blessed to have had him as "Our Pater" for so many years. I have always looked forward to coming home and going to church to experience and feel the Divine Liturgy with him and his beautiful voice. I cannot imagine my next visit without him, I have known no other "Pater" and he will always live in my heart and prayers.

May His Memory Be Eternal!

Sincerely,
Angelica Sponza (Ki Demos)

My family has countless memories of our beloved "Pater": our family's marriage ceremonies and baptisms, Sunday and Greek Schools to name a few. And who will ever forget seeing Pater walking the church grounds with the faithful Zues(s) by his side? He will forever hold a special place in our hearts. With all our love - Elizabeth and Mike Wade, Alexis, Michael and Leah

Cleo Stoucker

October 12, 2008

Pater Mou,
There are not enough words to express the pain the Stoucker family feels over your death. You were a spiritual leader that taught his flock(the Greek community) a legacy we will carry on forever. You kind smile greeted everyone who entered the Hellenic Center with warmth and love. Your beautiful voice chanting during the orthos and liturgy services would reach the heavens. The children in this community who have passed through your hands have been blessed by God. We have lived through the "Trivelas Era". I am so proud to have been blessed by your teachings. I will never forget the choir practices we had on Wednesday nights, and you would come out from behind the altar doors and say, " No, no, my children, that is not the way the hymn is sung. Pretend you are butterflies in a field and are rejoicing." I dare not forget all the memories of teaching your beloved Greek School. Remember all those loukoumades we would make for your nameday party. You would always come into the kitchen and say, "Don't forget girls, save me the extra fried pieces." There are so many memories we have with you that we will treasure from now until we meet again. The first couple you married, as you know, were my parents in 1948. You baptized my brother and me. You performed the marriages of my brother and my cousin from Greece. You baptized her two daughters. I grew up knowing that "Pater is a man of respect who represents God. There is no other man like Pater." Your love, warmth, heavenly voice and beautiful smile is shared by all the angels in heaven. You will truely be missed, but I know you are with God and in good hands. You loss is too great to bare at times. May your memory be eternal.

Me poli agapi,
H daskala sou

It saddens me to be signing this guestbook. I was expecting "Pater" to be around for many, many years to come. I can remember back when I was 5 yrs old, serving as an alter boy on Saturday mornings. Eventhough I was in God's house I was in the presence of greatness, and that greatness was "Pater". I always looked forward to speaking with Fr. Nick, whether he was talking about religion, historic or current issues. He would some how get in a joke or two. Presveteda Despina, my condolences go out to you and your family in this time of great loss. May Fr. Nick's memory be eternal.

I know he will be missed by his family and community, but I hope you will find comfort in knowing he touched many by his gentle and kind manner.

It is difficult to express the sadness felt by the passing of Father Nick. We are all so blessed to have had such a magnificent person like him in our lives. It was an honor to serve in the altar with him every Sunday as a child. I appreciate the lessons learned from him as he took time out of preparing for the Liturgy to meet with us before each Sunday School class, and I cherish the memories of seeing Pater (and Zeus!) at Greek School and his eagerness to share with us his knowledge of our Greek culture and heritage. God has called home a truly great man, and I'm sure the emptiness we feel now is the void left from the part of us he has taken with him. We will all miss him dearly and are comforted knowing he is at peace in the arms of the Lord.

With our sincerest condolences to the Trivelas family,

I have fond memories of traveling with Fr. Nick and other members of the clergy and laity to Greece in 1977. It was a pilgrimage entitled "In the steps of St. Paul," and was led Archbishop Iakovos of blessed memory. We visited Athens, Thessaloniki, Corinth and many other sites. At various gatherings and official receptions, the Archbishop wanted to display the singing talents of his priests and so an informal choir was formed, conducted, of course, by Fr. Nick. I will not forget Fr. Nick's kindness, and his gracious and generous manner. May Christ our Lord, Who is the Resurrection and the Life, grant repose to His faithful servant, Nicholas the Priest, and much consolation to his Presbytera, and to their family.

I will always remember Pater as a kind and forgiving man, with a wonderful singing voice, AND a wonderful sense of humor. Dear Holy Trinity Family, Father Nick was a blessed man and we were blessed to have him in our lives. As a young person growing up in Charleston and attending Church and Sunday School, I always looked to Father Nick for my spiritual guidance. In addition to teaching us of Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition, he was there as a friend and a teacher of life. Now at 50 years of age, I often reflect on my early spiritual learning and pass them on to my own children. I will weep for the loss of such a wonderful man, but rejoice in the faith that he gave to me.
