Nelson J. Davis Charleston - Nelson Jefferson Davis, 92, husband of Barbara Saunders Davis, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Friday, January 08, 2021. The relatives and friends of Nelson and Barbara Davis are invited to attend his Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Road, James Island. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Nelson grew up in Charleston, one of four sons born to the late Robert and Laura Davis. He joined the Army after graduating from Chicora High School. He worked at and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Electronics Shop 67. Nelson was happiest when he was spending time with the family he loved. He enjoyed camping, fishing, country music, and watching the Atlanta Braves. You would usually find him working in his yard or tinkering in his garage. One of his favorite things to do was eating out with his family at Melvin's Barbecue Restaurant. He was a longtime member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church. Nelson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Saunders Davis, his children, Donna Davis Smith (Allen), Nancy Davis Hull (Frank) and Larry Nelson Davis (Vicky), his grandchildren, Crystal Smith-Connelly, Ashley Smith, Kevin Smith, James Hull, Jessica Bowman (Rob) and Josh Higgins (Tasha), and his great-grandchildren, Hunter Higgins, Hannah Higgins and Sian Bowman.He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura Davis, and his brothers, Wilburn "Buster" Davis, James "Crackerjack" Davis and Jack Davis.
