Neal was special! He was a gentleman, compassionate, understanding, a good listener, a man’s man, a teacher, an encourager, a sweet man, a friend, a buddy, a perfectionist when it came to his work, a man of his word, someone you could always count on and so much more. He was cool. He loved his children and talked to me about how much he enjoyed Christmas with them when they were young – putting up the tree and watching them open their presents and cooking for them the “special meals”. He was happy when they were happy! He felt deeply about his family, his mother, his sister and her husband and those who had gone on before. He worked for my dad, Eric, for more than 20 years. My dad would say to me when he thought I was not as available to him as he wanted “Don’t worry. I know I can call Neal and he’ll help me.” They had a special relationship with a deep respect for each other. When I moved into my dad’s house, Neal became indispensable to me. He knew more about the house and yard than anyone. His was the final word as far as I was concerned about what I should do concerning any decision I made. My mantra was “I’ll ask Neal”. Some felt slighted, but that was the way it was. I wanted to know what he thought about all kinds of things. Needless to say, I will miss him deeply. He was my friend and buddy and I loved him. He was family. He taught me so much. He told about when things got difficult and he found himself in a tough situation he would say to himself, “Well, Neal, now what?” and sooner or later he would bust out laughing. It was better than any other solution. Then he would get about living. I am not laughing now as I know you all aren’t. But I will remember Neal’s words and make every effort to live life as Neal did! God be with you and yours.

To the Wilson Family (our other family), We often go back to our years on St. Philip Street. What precious memories. Mr. Neal, of course was a part of us. He was a big brother to our parents and a father figure to us. We grew distant as the years went by; but the memories are still there(especially those late night rides in the station wagon coming home from your West Ashley home). May you find the comfort in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We know that Mr. Neal will be missed by many-especially the family. We love you and may God continue to bless ALL of you. May His love sorround you all!! With our deepest sympathy, Bea, Paul, Evie, Junnie, Bubbles and Landa.
