Nancy McCarty Obituary

Nancy Ann McCarty was born May 23, 1932, in Springfield, Missouri, where she attended elementary, junior high and high school. As an adult she lived in Salina, Kansas; Tacoma, Washington; and Midland, Texas. In Midland, she met and married her husband, James McCarty. They settled in Memphis, Tennessee, where they raised three children.
Nancy served as president of her children's PTA and was active in the Methodist church for many years. When the children were older, the family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Nancy worked as an administrative assistant at UALR. She later retired from Cedar Chemical in Memphis.
Nancy spent her retirement doing mission work with Volunteers in Mission. She traveled to Costa Rica, Rwanda, India and to the southwestern United States, where she worked with Native American children. She moved to North Pole. Her mission work there led her to New Hope Methodist/Presbyterian church. She worked with teenagers and made many wonderful friends in her years there. She organized a mission trip to Siberia and took a group to help Katrina survivors. She later settled in Marietta, Georgia.
Nancy was the epitome of the gracious Southern lady, charming and generous. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt, who loved serving others. She will be sadly missed and joyously remembered.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Smythe and Edna Smythe Halliday and her husband, James McCarty.
She is survived by her loving children, Jim McCarty and wife, Patti, of St. Louis, Missouri; Nancy Lynn McCarty Vincent, her husband, David, and their ever-devoted dog, Luke, with whom she lived most recently, in Haughton, Louisiana; Jeff McCarty and his partner, Kim Kempton, of Foster City, California; grandchildren, Jay Ebbert, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Drew McCarty, of Chicago, Illinois; Kyra, Cori and Kempton McCarty, of Foster City, California; brother, Bob Halliday, and his wife, Laurel, of Marietta, Georiga; and sister, Susan Connelly, and Mike Connelly of Acworth, Georgia.
She has many adored nieces and nephews, including Melissa Connelly, Mike Terry and their daughter, Maggie, of Berkeley, California; Michael Connelly and his children, Caroline and Carter, of Acworth, Georgia; Christopher O. Bell, of Greenwood, Arkansas; and Mariele S. Bell, of Sharpsburg, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to www.chimphaven.org.

My heart goes out to all of you, Nancy Lynn, Bob, Susie, and the entire family. You surely have been a loving and devoted daughter to your independent and spirited Momma. I haven't seen the McCarty clan in decades, but I have gotten Christmas cards from Nancy for most of those years - she was better at that than me, for sure! I send love to you all.
