Nancy Benedict Obituary

Nancy Benedict MT. PLEASANT - Nancy Sue G. Benedict, 79, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013. Nancy was born on February 6, 1934 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Groby. Nancy was a graduate of Michigan State University. After graduating from College, she became a Police Officer, in Detroit, MI. She later married fellow Police Officer, Bruce Benedict. They had two children, Lisa and Bradley. They moved to the Ann Arbor area, and Nancy gave up her career to raise her children in the Dexter community. Nancy was so supportive and proud of Lisa and Bradley. When her children were grown, she again, sought work outside of the home. She worked for Glacier Hills Retirement Community in Ann Arbor, MI for fifteen years, where she shared such kindness and joy. The residents loved her, and she thoroughly enjoyed her work there. She moved to South Carolina ten years ago, near her daughter, son-in-law, and two of her grandchildren. She hated being so far away from her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, but was happy to never shovel snow again. To know Nancy was to love her. She was thoughtful, caring, and loving. Her greatest joy was her family. Nancy was not born into a big family, but created an extended family throughout her lifetime. While living in the dorms at MSU, Nancy met Marilyn and Allison. They became lifelong friends, ultimately, becoming "sisters" and "aunts" to the others' children. After moving to Mount Pleasant, she became a member of her son-in-law's family, attending every holiday, as part of a larger family. She loved to share her always entertaining stories of her undercover days on the police force. She loved playing games with her grandchildren. An avid cat lover, she loved spending time with her cat, Bella. What she loved most was being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Lisa Arent (Billy) of Mount Pleasant and Bradley B Benedict (Erica) of Ann Arbor, MI; her grandchildren, Taylor Arent, Morgan Arent, Brendan Benedict, and Robert Edwin FitzPatrick, III. A funeral service will be held at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 3PM with burial immediately following at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at the funeral home 1 hour prior to service from 2-3PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
