Myrna Thurgood Obituary

Myrna Walker Thurgood
9/26/1939 ~ 3/21/2016
Holladay, UT-Our sweet mother, Myrna Walker Thurgood, passed away of natural causes on March 21, 2016. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to A. Ross and Florence Walker September 26,1939.
Myrna had a wonderful childhood in which she loved playing softball, made life-long friends, and was spoiled by her daddy, culminating in a yellow convertible when she turned 16. She attended Granite High, where she met her future husband, Fred A. Thurgood, and together they had four children who adore her. They were later divorced.
Music was a huge part of Myrna's life. There wasn't a piece of music she didn't like, and loved playing them all on her grand piano. She sang in the Jay Welch Chorale, wrote winning Road Shows, and listened to Christmas music any time of the year. She also wrote beautiful poetry and shared that gift with anyone who needed the perfect words for a special occasion. Her other loves included cats (especially Sammy, whom she is holding now), bowling, the Utah Jazz, cruises, convertibles, lilacs, the Letterman, wrapping beautiful Christmas presents, any medical-based TV show, rocking chairs, satin pillowcases, frosting instead of cake, and divinity candy.
Above all, Myrna loved everyone and would do anything for anyone. She was generous and non-judgmental, and you could feel that sweetness whenever you were around her. We will miss her calming influence and feeling unconditionally loved by her, as well as her great sense of humor - every day.
Myrna is survived by her children, Randy (Carol Lynne), Tracy (Holly), Tawnya (Jon Crump), and Dan (Alisha), 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and her brother, Rodney Walker (Carlene). Preceded in death by husband John Reid.
Myrna loved her family at Alta Ridge in Holladay, and her children wish to thank them for taking such good care of her and making her feel so loved. We also want to thank the Holladay 10th Ward for always remembering her.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at 4601 S. Chapel Street (2565 E.), Holladay, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening, March 25, from 6-8 pm at the church and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Online condolence rasmussenmortuary.com

My best friend! The weekends in Park City, cruises, thrift shopping and the talks about everything that continued into the wee hours of the morning. I will miss waiting while Myrn applied her make-up and did her hair. How blessed I have been to have you as a BEST friend. Give Bryce a hug. Judy and Omer
