Dr. Friedman died peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2007, after a period of declining health. Son of the late Max Edward and Ethel Goldman Friedman, he was born April 5, 1924, in Chicago, IL. He served as a meteorologist in the US Army Air Force during World War II and owned a successful construction business in Chicago. Dr. Friedman was a consultant to the US Office of Education, is listed in Who's Who in America, and made significant contributions to education at the University and to the state of South Carolina. Professor Friedman authored twelve scholarly books and numerous articles. With colleagues Dr. Marvin Efron and Dr. John King, he founded the Institute for Evidence Based Decision Making in Education, which has contributed to improvements in the field of education nationally. Survivors include his wife, Betty McDowell Friedman; two sons, Gregg Allen Korbon and his wife Kathryn, and Myles I. (Mike) Friedman, Jr.; one sister, Blossom Krawcheck and her husband Saul; two grandchildren, Matthew and Lyn Korbon; and nieces and nephews.
