Mrs. Hirsch was my 1st grade teacher at the Charleston Hebrew Institute in 1956. She was so memorable and I have thought about her often through the many years. My condolences to her family. Her memory will live on in so many of us.

Mrs. Hirsch was my first grade teacher. She was strict, but everyone loved her. I remember that at the end of the year, she asked who wants a kiss. The boys said "no" and all the girls said "yes"- and then she proceeded to hand out Hershey kisses to all the girls! (And then gave to the boys!)
I am so sorry for your loss; your mom had a positive impact on many of our lives.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mrs. Hirsch, my first grade teacher at Charleston Hebrew Institute almost five decades ago. I still remember how Mrs. Hirsch welcomed us to school the first day with Hershey bars. She was a wonderful teacher who pushed her students with tough love right from the start. I remember how proudly she taught us about her husband's beautiful sculptures that adorned Charleston's public spaces. In addition to the reading, writing and math foundations that she taught every first grade class at CHI and later AHA, she imbued her classes with life lessons. Etiquette and good manners were part of the curriculum. When you earned praise from Mrs. Hirsch, it meant the world. She made a lasting impression on so many. May her memory be a continued blessing for many years to come.

Jack and Jane, I remember your mother from so long ago- when I took art from your father at his studio. Then she had some sort of young readers group where she read to us and helped us choose books to read. Remembering her makes me feel warm and secure. You are lucky to have had her as a mother for so many years.

To Jane and Jack, and family, my condolences to you for the loss of a lady who was so influential in your lives and the those of so many.
I remember visiting in your childhood home - probably a CDS field trip to see your father´s artwork - and your mother passing out homemade cookies. Always smiling and benevolent, Mrs. Hirsch was a sweet lady and an accomplished educator. I´m glad to have known her. Blessed are the memories we have of her.

Even though I never met Modenai, I knew her from the many stories shared by Jane of what a wonderful, caring, delightful person she was. The tender loving care the two Janes, family and care givers showed how much Modenai meant to all she knew. May you beloved memories be a comfort to you now and always.
