Monty Montgomery Obituary

Mr. Allen "Monty" Lea Montgomery died peacefully in his residence surrounded by loved ones on August 8, 2025, in Bonneau, SC at the age of 65. Born December 6, 1959, in Phoenix, AR, he was the son of the late John Wesley Montgomery and Ruth Ann (Saad) Montgomery. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Montgomery of Bonneau, SC; two daughters, Morgan Orowetz (husband Adam) and Gena Martin (husband Brandon), both of Moncks Corner, SC; his brother, Jeff Montgomery of FL; his sister, Cheryl (Montgomery) Pitts of GA; and his two precious grandsons, Remington and Chandler Orowetz. Monty had a four-decade long career in the car business, until he retired as the General Manager of Dick Smith Chevrolet in Moncks Corner, SC. Throughout his lifetime, he worked many odd jobs (everything from trimming palm trees to renovating houses) to help serve his community. There is no doubt, however, that his favorite job was being a "Papaw" to his grandchildren. He was also an avid outdoorsman and had a knack for golfing, hunting, and offshore fishing. Monty felt most at peace in nature, whether it was on a golf course, in a deer stand, or on the open ocean. Those closest to him acknowledge he also possessed a creative ingenuity rarely seen. His family recalls him bringing countless "napkin sketches" to life over the years, often with little if any help. His family will be having a private celebration of life on a date yet to be determined. The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hooked on Miracles King Mackerel Tournament, benefiting Shawn Jenkins MUSC Children's Hospital.
