Monica Theresa DeLuca (née Gomez), age 93, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in
Charleston, South Carolina. Born on April 3, 1932, in
Bridgeport, Connecticut, Monica lived a long and fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends.
Monica was the beloved daughter of Evelyn Sears and grew up alongside her siblings, Angela and Phil Gomez (married to Glenda). She married the love of her life, Orlando DeLuca, with whom she shared many cherished years. Together, they raised a family that brought her immense pride and joy. Monica was predeceased by her husband, Orlando; her sons, Mark DeLuca and Landy DeLuca; her grandson, Robert Reynolds; as well as her mother, Evelyn; and siblings, Angela and Phil.
She is survived by her loving children: Donna Jarrell (Joe), Robin Jones (Kurt), and Joseph DeLuca (Becci). Monica's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kymm Cothren (Mike), Stevie Jarrell (April), Tarah Jarrell (Jeff), Bambi Murwin (Trey), Stacey Tyler (Jared), Danielle Martin (Russ), and Diamond Walker (Alayna); granddaughter-in-law, Liz Reynolds (widow of Rob); as well as an abundance of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Known affectionately as "Nana" to her grandchildren and more, Monica's love extended far beyond immediate family-she was "Mom," "Aunt Monica," or simply "Monica" to countless others who were touched by her warmth.
Monica had a zest for life that shone through in everything she did. She loved sewing, cooking, playing games like Yahtzee and SkipBo, and watching television-especially musicals such as *The King and I*, *My Fair Lady*, and *South Pacific*. Her admiration for movie actor Denzel Washington was well-known among those close to her. A talented singer with a beautiful voice, Monica delighted in singing show tunes alongside her granddaughters. Her home was often filled with music, laughter, and the aroma of delicious meals she lovingly prepared for family gatherings.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Monica grew up attending church regularly and later found solace in watching Mass on television. Her faith was unwavering, and she enjoyed engaging in spirited debates about religion with those willing to join the conversation. Her deep love for God guided her actions and inspired those around her.
Monica's kindness knew no bounds-she truly loved everyone she met. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel valued and welcomed without judgment. Whether sharing stories from her rich life experiences or lending an ear to others' tales, Monica had a gift for connecting with people on a profound level. Her generosity of spirit made her a friend to many.
In the years before her health began to decline, Monica was an ever-present supporter in the lives of those she loved. She attended countless milestones for each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild-always cheering them on with pride. Even those who never had the privilege of meeting Monica knew of the immense love she gave so freely to all who crossed her path.
Her family describes her as their greatest cheerleader-a woman whose presence enriched their lives immeasurably. Though they mourn the loss of this remarkable matriarch deeply, they take comfort in knowing that Heaven has gained an angel whose light will continue to shine brightly in their hearts.
May Monica Theresa DeLuca's memory bring comfort to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love she shared so generously throughout her incredible 93 years on Earth.
