Miriam Bowers Obituary

Miriam Bowers ESTILL, SC - Miriam Bowers, of Browning Gate Road, Estill, South Carolina passed away on April 4, 2012. She was born October 12, 1928 in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and was an employee of Tison Motor Company for many years. She worked for Dwight Holder of Pickens, South Carolina for a period time on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and then for fourteen years at Bethea, Jordon and Griffith, a prominent law firm on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. At 78 years of age, Miriam retired after working for her brother, Lee S. Bowers, at the law firm of Bowers and Siren in Estill, South Carolina. Miriam was a member of Nixville Baptist Church where she was the Director of Music for 28 years, and she was later a member of Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church near Estill, South Carolina. Miriam was preceded in death by her sister, Rosalyn Bowers McGee of Richmond, Virginia, and her brother, Karl S. Bowers of Columbia, South Carolina. She is survived by her brother, Lee S. Bowers of Estill (wife Leslie); niece Karen McGee Smith of Richmond, Virginia; and a brother-in-law, George McGee (husband of Rosalyn McGee) also of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Susan D. Bowers (wife of the late Karl S. Bowers) of Columbia, South Carolina; nephews Karl S. Bowers, Jr. (wife Julie) of Columbia, South Carolina; Timothy B. Bowers (wife Keri) of Johns Island, South Carolina; and Kelvin Neal Bowers (wife Michelle) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Miriam is further survived by children of Lee S. Bowers (wife Leslie): Lindsey Andrews of Columbia, South Carolina; Laurie Bowers of Bluffton, South Carolina; and Kimmie Bowers of Bluffton, South Carolina. She is also survived by a number of great-nieces and nephews. Miriam would want her special friend, Paula Harper Bethea, mentioned inasmuch as she loved her dearly and thought of her as a sister. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 11:00 a.m until 1:00 p.m. at the Nixville Baptist Church Social Hall in Nixville, South Carolina. Grave-side Services will be at the Nixville Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Heavenly Rest Episcopal Church, c/o Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry St. West; Hampton, SC 29924; Lawtonville Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 200; Estill, SC 29918 or Nixville Cemetery Association, c/o Nixville Baptist Church, 3915 Two Sisters Ferry Rd., Estill, SC 29918.
