Mims Merritt Obituary

MERRITT, JR., Mims MONCKS CORNER - Mr. Mims Emrod Roddy Merritt, Jr., 61, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Merritt was born in Charleston, SC, a son of Mr. Mims Emrod and Sara Frances Shine Merritt. He was a graduate of Lake City High School; graduate of Wingate College and attended the University of Georgia. Mr. Merritt served in the United States Army in the Panama Canal. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and was a member of the Moncks Corner Lions Club. He served as Vice President and Branch Manager for the First National Bank in Holly Hill for ten years. He was presently employed for fourteen years as Vice President of Farmers and Merchants Bank of Moncks Corner. He earned certificates in CIT Financial Services; the American Institute of Banking and did further study at Louisiana State University, and Commercial Lenders School of the University of South Carolina. His civic work includes the Chamber of Commerce and the Moncks Corner Lions Club. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Holly Hill, SC. Survivors include his wife, Lou Nell Jones Merritt; one daughter, Tracie Kathryn Muffy Merritt and her fiancé Curtis Alvin Fulmer of Newberry; one sister, Mrs. Pam M. (Dan) Coker of Lake City; one brother, Randy (Nan) Merritt of Cordova; two nieces Wendy Coker of Mt. Pleasant and Jill C. (Patrick) Hunt of Lake City; four nephews, Kevin Benjamin (Danielle) Poston of Pamplico, Ty Merritt of Columbia, Ryan Merritt of Cordova, and Robert O. Bubba Merritt, Jr. of Rockingham, NC, and four grand nieces, Alexandra Grace Merritt, Emma Louise Hunt, Kaleigh Marie Poston and Abby Lynn Merritt Mr. Merritt is predeceased by one brother, Mr. Robert O. Bob Merritt. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 7, 2007, in Lake City United Methodist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Brockington Funeral Home, 122 W. Thomas Street, Lake City, SC.
