Mildred Shokes Obituary

Mildred Shokes CHARLESTON - Laura Mildred Sanders Shokes, the wife of Clyde H. Shokes, passed away at her home in Charleston on Friday. Millie was born in Williston, SC on March 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur M. Sanders and Frances Alma Wolfe. She was the youngest of nine children. She was a descendent of Robert Willis who founded Williston. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church on Church Street. She was a devoted housewife and mother. She previously worked with Dr. William Prioleau and Dr. Edward Parker on Hasell Street. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Shokes are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Monday, February 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Charleston. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Sunday, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. She is survived by her husband, three children: Clyde H. Shokes, Jr., Cassie F. Shokes and Lee C. Shokes and his wife Sue. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Laura E. Shokes Mappus, the mother of her grandchildren: Fran Mappus Cross and her husband Bruce, Rev. Mary Mappus Finklea and her husband Wade, and Theodore T. Mappus, IV and his wife Katherine, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church School Teacher's Fund, 48 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401. grandmother, and friend. We have been thinking about you and all the children and grandchildren, since Sue Redd and Marilyn Stehmeier let us know about her
