Mildred Mims Obituary
MIMS, Mildred COLUMBIA - Mildred Teal Mims, beloved wife of O. Gerald Mims, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005, after a challenging illness. Born May 2, 1940, in Cassatt, she was the daughter of William and Rebecca Teal. Mrs. Mims graduated from Midway High School after which she entered the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, pursuing a career until she married her husband, to whom she was deeply devoted and a constant support. Throughout the years, she was blessed with a successful real estate career, which reaped many awards. She began that career in 1985, working happily and tirelessly to become a professional Realtor admired by the entire real estate community. Her hard work and professionalism led to her success. She earned the respect of her clients and fellow Realtors, and received numerous awards for her accomplishments. She was a charter member of the Sales & Marketing Council of the Columbia Home Builders Association, a Lifetime member of Columbia Board of Realtors Circle of Excellence, and the recipient of Columbia Home Builders Association Regal Awards. She taught classes certifying new home professionals. Most recently, she was broker-in-charge with Beazer Homes, having worked with the company many years. There, she was referred to as the face of Beazer's in Columbia. She would be sent to slow moving areas that were not selling, and get that property moving again. Everyone loved her. Her friendship, kindness, and thoughtfulness will always be remembered. She was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. Her life personified the most noble virtues of motherhood, always being there for her children as well as for her husband and grandchildren. She was a culinary extraordinaire, evident when, on occasions, she prepared a delectable meal for her clients. With her determination and ability to accomplish a task, she was appropriately dubbed, The Velvet Hammer. She was determined to overcome her challenging illness, manifested by her optimism and faith as she suffered one serious setback after another, and even in the end, she maintained her dignity with never a complaint. Her memory will forever be cherished, for she was truly loved. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 2 p.m. at Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Drive, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Jerry Long will officiate, assisted by Rev. Stan Sullivan. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
