Mildred was an inspiration to all who knew her as a teacher, mentor, friend, or colleague. She was so talented in so many ways, so kind, so generous, and so energetic! I once read that someone had commented about Dr. Albert Sweitzer that he was "a sermon walking." What better words to describe the wonderful and amazing Mrs. A. We all love you Thelbert and share your grief. So many people will miss her!! Shirley Bledsoe

Mildred Almond was an inspiration, a mentor, a lifeline. As a young teacher in the classroom next to MRS. ALMOND, I definitely learned to teach. For over 40 years, the friendship we shared has been a touchstone for life. What a blessing the works of both Mildred and Thelbert have been to lift our spirits and anchor our lives. REJOICING in Heaven now puts Mildred in another volunteer position!

Dear Mr. Almond,
I am teary and sad about Mrs. Almond's passing this morning. My mother told me about it just today. She was the greatest teacher...words just can't express it. More than that, she truly cared for every student and got the best out of each one - challenged us all to be our best always. The tributes here are so sweet. I agree that I can only hope and pray that my kids have a teacher as memorable and inspirational as Mrs. Almond. You are in our prayers and thoughts. God's peace be with you.

To Mr. Almond and the entire extended family,
I was greatly saddened to hear of Mrs. Almond's passing. While I never had her for a class per se at Middleton, I have very fond memories of participating in various school plays/musical productions for which she directed.
She, like I, was a perfectionist and I do remember that she was relentless in striving to bring out the very best from her students (even when they were not being very cooperative!).
May her memory serve as a blessing and may you know from no more such sorrow.

Mrs. Almond was an amazing teacher who will be missed by many. I only had her for one class, but even before I was in her class, I knew her by reputation. She helped me personally by getting me to step outside my comfort zone and take a part in a play.

I am a graduate of the class of 1982 at Middleton High School.I was fortunate enough to have had Ms. Almond as a teacher for American history and economics. Her energy and enthusiasm was contagious. There wasn't a student in her class who did not want to be there, who did not want to learn and who did not want to do well...all because of her. Ms. Almond was a remarkable woman - truly insprirational. She touched so very many lives including mine in such a positive manner. Please accept my deepest condolences to her family.

My hope is that one day one of my children will have a teacher as inspirational as Mrs. Almond. She new how to motivate, praise, and crack the whip, and I always knew it came with affection. Her classes where among the few in which I did well, mainly because I couldn't bear to disappoint her. She may be gone from this earth, but her light continues to burn bright in the thousands of students that she touched. Godspeed Mrs. A.

My sincerest condolences to Mr. Almond and their family.

Simply put, Mrs. Almond was one of the single most important influences in my life. She plucked me out of teenage malaise, put me on the stage in her theater productions, challenged me in her AP history class, and provided me advice and guidance that I have carried with me through life. Even now, at 50, I sometimes still ask myself, "what would Mrs. Almond think about this?" and the answer is usually the right one.

I am sure my experience was not unique. As my friend Scott Peeples and I were saying yesterday when we learned the news, it is incalculable the impact Mrs. Almond had for good over the course of her life through her classroom teaching, her mentoring and her community leadership. We will miss her dearly.

Not only were students at MHS blessed to know Mildred Almond but also those of us on the faculty during the years she taught there. Mildred had an ability to know so many people and their lives and loved ones and cared about each soul in such an empathic, Christ-centered way. I believe her to be on par with Mother Theresa in the caring, serving heart she showed all people. Her work on earth was unselfish and purposeful and the legacies left behind are plentiful in all those whose lives she touched. God be with you, dear friend...how we will miss you on this side of Heaven.

It is hard to think of Middleton High School and not think of Mrs. Almond. She was so much a part of it and of each of us who attended. I was fortunate to have had her my senior year. She made a lasting impression on my life. And what a joy and surprise to see her at our class's 30th reunion a few years ago! - just as fiesty as ever!!
She touched many lives and none of us were ever the same. Heaven is rejoicing that she has joined their ranks! God speed!

The Glennie and Sally Murray family grieves today for the "greatest teacher" who ever lived. The Murray family will never forget Mrs. Almond for introducing our parents, Glennie and Sally, to each other while working many years ago at Murray Vocational High School. When our father died two years ago, Mildred Almond provided the finest eulogy we have ever heard. Mildred Almond may be gone, but she will never be forgotten as she has had a tremendous impact on many lives. We are thankful for Mrs. Mildred and our thoughts are with Mr. Thelbert.

What sorrow we feel as we greive for the loss of our very own "Steel Magnolia." She not just inspired her students but found a way to light a fire in each of us to go find and do what God intended us to do with our lives. Oh the memories of watching this elegant lady fulfill her earthly purpose in the classroom. Mildred, your legacy & spirit lives on in each of us and our duty now is to pass it on to others. God bless your family and all who love you during this time of grief and rememberance.

I had the great fortune of being one of Mrs. Almond's students at Middleton High School. I could go on for pages - she was remarkable, and the commitment and energy she displayed every day inspired hundreds of us, not only in the classroom, but in the innumerable hours she spent directing plays and coaching us at public speaking competitions.

I sincerely wish that every student could have a teacher like Mildred Almond at least once in their life.

Oh the memories, the most wonderful experiences she pored to include so much Heart felt and true love into the School, all the students .. Not seen in today in most Teachers..

Let it be known the Mrs. Almond influenced so many to go on and become teachers or to be the best and not accept anything thing less than the best out of our self's and those we surround our self's with .. All of which we all The MiddleHigh School Razorbacks still carry onward today..

She will always be remembered as one of the Best and none like the Rest - Except those fellow teachers from Middleton whom taught us all..

Truly a remarkable Lady indeed !! But know in your hearts, we all will carry on and in her memory to be the best we can be.. Never to accept nothing less than Mrs. Almond and the rest of Middleton High School teachers taught us all to be !!

Rest in Peace now Mrs. Almond - Your work on EARTH IS NOW DONE.. For its round 2 of your life work.. Travel with God Speed to Heaven Mrs. Almond- Prepare a place for all your loved ones. As if we all knew you - We know the Lord and HIS love and forgiveness for all of us !!! Because of you !!!

To the Almond family and Friends..
May you have such comfort - She guided so many- Down a Road less traveled by many for we are not lost -But are found in her good work and love for all..

Until we meet in Heaven - Be the Angel you have always been.. Your work and memory will be carried on by all ..

I was so saddened to hear this news. Mrs. Almond was one of the finest teachers there was, and I am confident there is great rejoicing in Heaven because she is there.

Thelbert and family,
A truly wonderful person has been taken by God to serve in another capacity. A mutual friend of mine and Mildred's, Mary Thrift, said to me that God simply needed Mildred to serve in another place. That comforted me as did the words of a dear friend and former colleague,Sara O. Vale, who said that Mildred was the closest person to a saint that she had ever known. We have all lost a great friend, one of the most decent and giving of individuals, and one of the most gifted teachers I have ever known. Mildred was my mentor, my advisor, my confidant and my dear friend. She was one of the most generous people I have ever known. I always encouraged students to take any subject that she taught, as it would be an opportunity to take something away they would have for a lifetime. She will always be remembered by those who loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you deal with this loss. May all of the love, prayers and kind words offered to you all comfort you and bring you peace as you remember her. Carol M. Onorato

Mrs. Almond, will be deeply missed. She was an excellent teacher at
Middleton High School. A teacher you could always count on to help everyone each and everyday. She helped you whether she taught you or not. If she saw a student in the hallway, she would stop them asked if they were okay. I can still remember her smiling face and saying good morning in the halls at Middleton High. A teacher who made a difference. She was always working to make things better at the school and at church. Our church will never be the same again. She was such an important asset and will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family.
