Phyllis, we were so saddened to hear about Mike passing. We didn't even know he had been ill. I accidently found the obit while looking at the Charleston paper this morning. Please accept our condolences and our prayers are with you and the family. We would loved to have been there but just finding out and with Mom not being able to make the trip there was no way. Ronnie and I will be down for Christmas and I'll try to see you then. We love you you all. May God bless and comfort you.
Love,
Barbara & Ronnie Hughes

We men of the silent service are grateful to be among the few ever to thrill with the excitement of a dive, and sheer ecstasy of each surfacing. We'll miss ya Mike but will meet again in Submariners Heaven...

I have a photograph from 1988 of me and my Uncle Conrad dancing together at my wedding. I was honored that he wore full Navy dress to my big day. Though the marriage ended years ago, the picture is close at hand and I am so proud to be able to say, "This is my Uncle Conrad, check out all the stripes on his sleeve." He is the only career service man I have ever known. Though we've seen each other infrequently over the years, my feelings of sorrow for you and your loss run close and deep. I love you all, Aunt Phyllis, and I'm sure that no words in the world will soften the pain you feel. As the fog of loss begins to lift, remember that Uncle Conrad has not only left pain and suffering behind him, but he has a legacy of a beautiful family with years and years of magic memories.
