Michael Wolanski Obituary

Michael J. Wolanski

AGE: 68 • Millsboro

Michael Joseph Wolanski, age 68, of Millsboro, and formerly of Newark, DE, died peacefully January 6, 2015 in the presence of his two sons Michael and David. He was born December 23, 1946 in Tyrol Austria, to Stella (Rudzik ) and Michael Wolanski. The family immigrated to the USA in 1949 and settled in Binghamton, NY. In 1964 Mike joined the US Air Force and bravely served in the Vietnam War. He was wounded while on duty at the Saigon Airport. He was transported to Guam where he recovered and then served at Dover Air Base until his honorable discharge.

Michael eventually became a VA Regional Employment Officer in Delaware. He specialized in assisting Vietnam Veterans to find jobs. He also helped them with various problems. Michael coordinated many Vietnam Veteran's events; he was especially proud of having his friend, Vice President Joe Biden as a speaker. He served in this capacity until his retirement.

Michael is predeceased by his wife Carmella, mother of his two devoted sons. Michael and his wife Gabrielle, Millsboro, Delaware and their loving daughter Jessica; David and his wife Anna, Ocean View, Delaware.

Michael is predeceased by his parents Stella and Michael. He was especially close to his mother. Michael is survived by his four brothers and their families: Anthony and his wife Theresa, Chestnut Ridge, NY; John and his wife Karen, State College, PA; Stanley and his wife Thola, Athens, PA , Thomas and his wife Ann, Fairport, NY. Michael has many loving nephews and nieces. Michael always attended and was very generous at all the family occasions.

Michael's many friends in Binghamton, NY and Delaware fondly remember him for his humor, caring, loving and free spirit nature. They remember his fondness for flashy fast cars and his PUG dog Trixie, who was always a comfort and at his side.

There will be a Chapel service at 2PM, Friday January 16, 2015 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2666p Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware 19966, with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated in Michael's name, to The Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cemetery Chapel Fund, 230 Ukrainian Hill Road, Johnson City, New York 13790-1686

I'm very saddened to hear of Mikes passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wolanski family. His passion was to ensure that veterans received benefits they were entitled to. He assisted me in learning Federal and State regulations for those benefits at the Delaware Department of Labor when I was hired. RIP my friend.

January 13, 2015

To the Wolanski family, I had the honor and pleasure to be friends with Mike for over 35 years. We met in 1977 while working together and became instant friends. Our friendship was always full of fun times, great experiences and so many fond memories. Having had the opportunity to meet most of you and especially your wonderful parents, it is evident where Mike got his deep family roots, respectfulness and dignity. I am so sorry for your loss and know that he is in a better place. He was a good man and always knew a way to get something done or a person that could assist with any situation. God Bless him. Rest in peace my man pots and pans!
your friend, Ken Panella

To the Wolanski Family,

I was sad to hear of Michael's passing. I grew up with Michael in the 1st Ward of Binghamton. I remember clearly, hanging out at Balch's and getting a piece of Stella's pizza, or a spedie at Sharkey's. Mike made it a long way from Lake Avenue. Let him rest in peace.

To the Wolanski families, Sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Growing up he was one of the "guys" in the First Ward. We were all close knit back then. And we all loved his mother, Stella, who fed us "hot pies" from Sharkey's. He was always a good man.
