Michael Ernest Smith SUMMERVILLE - Michael Ernest Smith (69) of Summerville, widower of Sharon Lea Smith, received his wings on the morning of Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Trident Medical Center. Michael was born on January 17, 1954, at Patrick Space Force Base in Cocoa Beach, Florida, son of the late Ernest Clifton Smith and Patricia Floyd Smith. Survivors are: daughters, Melissia Lynn Bazzle (Lee) of Summerville; Jordan Lea Lawson (David) of Cottageville; sisters, Myra Elizabeth Scott (Tom) of Summerville; Mary Patra Smith (Ray) of Johns Island; Joye Lynn Trehus of Cottageville; three grandsons, Joshua Blake Bazzle of Summerville; Michael "Cash" Lawson and Gatlin Dean Lawson both of Cottageville; lots of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Michael was a welder by trade but was best known for his sense of humor and his way of making people laugh. He always had a story to tell. His favorite past time was tinkering in his shop. If it was broken, he would fix it "Mike's Way". Sometimes "Mike's Way" involved bungie cords, zip ties, welding rods, flashlights and batteries but it always seemed to work. He loved his family and took great delight in his grandsons. He will be greatly missed. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital. Michael's life will be celebrated on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 2pm at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Service, 281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC 29456.
