Met Mike back in 1967, the year I transferred to ENC. We kept in touch through the years, primarily through letter writing and later emails. I so appreciated his friendship.

I have known Michael since 1981. At the time, I was serving as organist at the former St. Peter´s by the Sea Episcopal Church in North Charleston. Michael had been one of my predecessors there and often substituted for me and at other churches in the following years. We borrowed music back and forth between us and enjoyed fellowship at meetings of our local chapter of the American Guild of Organists. We also shared teaching tips as we both were classroom music teachers. I last heard him play at a wedding I attended at First Christian Church on Orange Grove Road where he was serving as organist.
I will miss the professional friendship and will hold very fond memories of him as a fine musician and human being. My condolences to his family.

Daniel Smoak, Pastor @ Westminster Presbyterian Church CHS

Our hearts are saddened to hear this news. Westminster Presbyterian Church (West Ashley) is one of the churches where Mike served. When I came to Westminster as pastor in 2015, I got to know Mike- appreciating his giftedness, faith, and commitment to justice and mercy. He sang in our choir for years- even when he was no longer playing the organ here. We will grieve for him- but with the hope of resurrection through our LORD. Well done, Mike.
