Dear Audrey - I am saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I have many fond memories of the 20 years working for him. My thoughts & prayers are with you.

Dr Michael Runey was such a genuine and sincere person who always made sure you felt honored by his attentiveness and interest in you when he was with you. When he asked how you and your family were doing, you knew he meant it.
Audrey and family, please know how much Michael will be missed by so many people his life touched with his goodness.

so sorry to hear about Micheal passing he was a great guy and will be miss , my prayers are with the family.

What a blessing Dr.Runey was! Not only did he see me as a child but he put braces on both of my daughters. My favorite memory of him though was watching him with his grands a couple years ago at Edisto. We spent a week next door and all of you made us feel so welcome. My son Tucker still talks about the girls! I was very saddened to see this news but he leaves behind his legacy and beautiful memories with all of you. I hope you find some comfort in that. Prayers for all of you!

Audrey and All the Runey's, I was sadden by Michael's death. He was my football idol when he was playing QB at B.E. I remember going to watch him practice at the old field next to the Citadel Stadium. I know that he and Randy are together up there talking sports and have a good time. We all will miss him. One of the really Good guys!

Michael touched so many lives, including mine. He was a real gem and an inspiration to all who knew him. He was an integral member of the Charleston orthodontic community, epitomizing what it means to be a caring and compassionate orthodontist. He will be missed but never forgotten. I am so very sad and send my deepest condolences to all in his family. It's really hard to put into words all the things that I want to say, but I will add that Michael was a very special person.

The world is less. Dr. Michael Runey found silent ways to assist so many causes and inspire innumerable lives. His uniqueness was that he made it through his seventy years with a rare accumulation of countless true friends who felt strongly about his commitment and character. There are very few as deeply admired, less who approached his generosity, and lesser yet as profoundly humble. May God bless him and his family.

A great man has left us. I was privileged to attend the College of Dental Medicine with Michael, and to serve with him on the Alumni Board these many years. He was a good friend and a man who will surely be missed. Godspeed, Michael.

To Audrey, Melissa, Michael, spouses, grandchildren, the whole Runey family and the Meyer family, we are so sad to hear that Michael passed away. It was with great sadness that I heard of Mike's passing. Mike was truly one of the outstanding individuals and gentlemen of our Class and especially the Big Apple (A Company). I will always remember how he and his parents took in some lonely and somewhat lost freshmen. Their home was always open with kindness, friendship and some fresh baked goods. All the qualities that Mike continued to display in his life.

Grieving for the friends I made more than a half century ago while we were classmates at the Citadel has become much too common, but not any less profound. Many of us have shared the good fortune of being able to remain in touch, either in person, through our periodic reunions or through the now omnipresent social media and for that I am extremely grateful. Our joint memories are so embedded that I am confident we will see each other soon in my dreams. But Michael will be very deeply missed.

I was very sorry to hear of Michael's passing. I knew Mike in high school. I played basketball at Rivers High, and we won the State in 1964. If I remember correctly when we played at Bishop England we stopped their winning streak at home. He was a good man and I enjoyed knowing him.

Dr. Runey will be missed greatly by all of us at the MUSC James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine. He was a good friend to everyone and always willing to help. His wonderful wit, warmth, and comaraderie were an integral part of what defined the initial founding classes of our college. It is with tremendous sadness that our dean, faculty, staff, and students send our deepest sympathies to his family.

Knew Michael was battling cancer, but this really hurt and brought tears to my eyes. I was 2 years behind Michael and was one of the Hampton Park Gang. He was a role model for all of the younger gang and we all looked up to him and admired his athletic skills and subconsciously followed his lead and strong character--a trademark of the Runey family.
