Michael Marek Obituary

Michael A. Marek Sr., 63, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, died August 9, 2025 after a brave six month battle with cancer. Born January 5, 1962, in Norfolk Virginia, he was the son of the late Ernest Edward Marek and Joan Finklea Marek. Mike worked at Robert Bosch Company in North Charleston. He enjoyed woodworking. Those special few who received a set of cornhole boards can attest to his detailed work and all of the love and imagination he put into them. He was also proficient at Pool. As a matter of fact, I believe he is still holding the title of "Champion of the World" at 9 ball and 8 ball. He loved working in the yard, spending time with friends and fishing at our vacation home on Edisto Island. Mike leaves behind his wife of 16 years, Melonea Locklair Marek. The two of them enjoyed traveling with friends and family over the years. Mike was a hard-working man who adored his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a quiet rather shy man, until you got to know him. He was also the kindest man I have ever met. He was an excellent cook and griller and loved cooking for others. He is survived by his wife, Melonea Locklair Marek, his children Allen Marek (Stephanie) and Nick Marek (Alexis). He had two grandchildren, Seth and Abel. He is survived by his brothers, Wayne Marek (Patty), Randy Marek (Patricia), David Marek (Pamela), and his sister Brenda Sahlman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the excellent care he received from Agape Hospice. We also appreciate our family and friends who were here daily while Mike was sick. I specifically want to thank Mikes' brother David for coming every day and helping Mike exercise. Finally, a special thank you to Shawn, Franklin, Mary and Franklin for their love and support these last 6 months. The family will receive visitors on Friday evening, August 15 from 6-8 at Dyal Funeral Home. The service will be August 16 at 11:00 am at Bethany United Methodist Church Spell Chapel located at 118 West Third South Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis TN 38105.
