Michael Faulstich Obituary

Michael E. Faulstich, MD PhD MT. PLEASANT - We mourn the loss of Mike, born December 6, 1958, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Roper St. Frances Hospital after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially his wife, Kim and his three children, Paul, Natalie, and Maria of Mount Pleasant, SC; his parents, Helen and Jerry of Charlotte, NC; and his siblings, Peg, Betsy, Jim, and Sallie. Mike was born in Baltimore, MD on December 6, 1958, one of five children. He grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School. He went on to get a PhD in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University, an MD from Duke University, and did his fellowship in diagnostic radiology from Vanderbilt University, after which he began his practice. Since 1996, Mike has practiced radiology at Clarendon Memorial Hospital and Williamsburg Regional Hospital, as well as covering several outpatient imaging centers. Along the way he fell in love with and married Kim Hutchinson of Houma, LA, had three children, and ultimately moved to Mount Pleasant, SC. Mike had a generous and warm soul and was extremely close with his wife and children. He was known for his love of music and learning. He had a fascination with the world around him, making him an ongoing student of philosophy, religion, history, politics and more. Mike also developed a love of brewing beer, investing and gardening. To these things he applied an informed and disciplined approach which yielded good food, growth, and excellent beer. His intellect and successes impressed those around him, yet he was humble and always interested in others. All these things made Mike compelling company and a much loved husband, father, son, and brother. The family would like to thank Dr. George Keogh, Dr. James Carswell, the nurses and staff at Charleston Hematology and Oncology Associates, and the nurses and staff at Roper St. Francis Hospital for their loving and compassionate care. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Charlotte, NC and Houma, LA among his immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

This morning I read about Mike's death in the CCHS news letter, and was very surpised. I went to grade school and high school with Mike. Even though he was a year older, we spoke often were friends. I remember his great sense of humor, smile and laugh. I remember Peggy working at the Harris Teeter at Old Providence, who was a friend of my sister Mary. I am sorry that Mike had to leave so early. I am sure he is missed. The cool thing about the news letter was that he was also listed in the gifts section as giving a donation. I think Mike appreciated his past and like most of us, loved his time on Park Rd at CCHS.

My deepest sympathy to Mike's family. I haven't seen Mike since he was a teenager in Old Providence and at one time baby sitter. I know the Faulstich family is proud of all the accomplishments Mike has made in his lifetime and I share in their grief. My thoughts and prayers to the Faulstich family.

So sad about my cousin Mike. He was so much fun to be around growing up when we would visit Charlotte or his family would travel to Baltimore. Always seemed some sort of mischief was in the making! I will never forget his big smile and warm heart that let you know he was genuinely happy to be with you. Love you Mike. And to the whole family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We love you all very much.

Growing up with Mike's younger brother as a best friend for many years, I looked at Mike as another older brother. His friendship with my brothers, myself, and anyone he met was always one of loyalty and understanding. His love of music was not only passed to Jim, but me too and I thank him for that! Mike, you will be missed and my heartfelt condolences go to all your family and friends.

I am so sad to hear about Mike. He was a great friend to my boys when we lived in Olde Providence. Always a smile and a really "nice kid"! My condolences to his family and especially to his mom and dad who were friends of ours back in the day. May he rest in peace.

My uncle was the most humble man I've ever known. He was so dedicated to his family and work along with continued learning. His home in Pawley's Island, SC was a gathering place for our family for many years. I also have some happy memories of him from when I was a small child. I am heartbroken for Kim, Paul, Natalie and Maria for their loss. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Mike when he was at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a Clinical Psychology Resident- a warm, compassionate, caring clinician and dedicated scientist.
