Michael Farrow Obituary

Michael Ashby Farrow PAGELAND, SC - It's over now, Mikey, the strangled cries late at night, the sudden violence. It's over. As you descended ever further into confusion, you grew stronger. You could embrace someone with all the love in the universe, then snap their necks. The next moment, your Lenny-like lumbering charming visage would peer down puzzled that the object of your affection was inert. Sadly the light of your gentle, loving nature was overcome by your size and your unpredictability and so you began the odyssey of institutions spanning distance and devolution until over a decade ago, you landed in an obscure group home in an obscure South Carolina county where you met a case worker, Mary Katherine Bagnal, who actually cared and loved you. You will never know the pain your parents felt as their denial began to crumble like an old Charleston wall. You were to be the golden boy, the one to carry the torch and as that flame slowly ebbed, they lashed out in that denial. You didn't know, but seven people's lives were profoundly and inextricably changed as they realized that all the love in the world cannot fix what will be. And so, they are all gone, Mikey, all who followed your life - Granny and Granddaddy, Nathan and Maybelle, Mommy and Daddy, they have all stood before their Creator and bathed in the brilliance of wisdom and purity. Where you are now, your child-like innocence allowing you entree like a back stage pass. Only one of us is left above ground as Mommy put it. Like all of us, your older brother felt that responsibility of failing you somehow, that if only things had been different... But they weren't. Mary Katherine and I could not save you, but we will rip the system apart to get retribution for you and so many others like you. You can rest in the arms of Jesus now, Mikey. The crying and confusion are over. The cry for justice has just begun. The relatives and friends of Michael Ashby Farrow are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Graveside St. Philip's Churchyard. Laurie and I send our prayers to you, David.
"For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;…"
May God's peace and grace abound in you in this time.

Dave – Your mom's obituary was beautiful. Mikey's is profound. I'll ever remember her trying to get him to play with me 50 years ago and realizing oh so incompletely at age eight that something just wasn't right. Blessings. Beau
