Michael Ebert Obituary

Michael Preston "Mike" Ebert, Sr. GARDEN CITY, SC - Michael Preston "Mike" Ebert, Sr., age 77, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Port St Lucie, Florida. He will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Mike was a kind and generous person, almost to a fault He never met a stranger and treated everyone with dignity and respect He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting and offshore fishing. He was particularly proud of his time of service in the Marine Corps and loved to say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." He was a loving husband and father and also considered his beloved furry friends his children as well. Mike was born in Columbia, South Carolina to his parents Robert Edwin "Ed" Ebert, Sr. and Rubye Williamson Ebert After graduating from the Blue Ridge School in Hendersonville, North Carolina, he attended the University of South Carolina. Mike served in the United States Marine Corps for several years and received an honorable discharge. He was then elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives, where he served for one term. A successful entrepreneur, Mike and his twin brother, Bill, co-founded Ebert Sportswear, a textile manufacturing company based in Columbia, South Carolina. After retiring, Mike spent his time between Garden City Beach, South Carolina and Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Susie Ebert. Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife Marie Ebert; his two brothers, William Southworth "Bill" Ebert, Sr. and Robert Edwin "Bob" Ebert, Jr.; Ann Ebert Jackson, with whom he proudly shared two children, Michael Ebert and his wife Kristian and Suni Collins and her husband Brad; and grandchildren Bradford Collins, Georgie Collins, John Harrison Collins, Mary Preston Collins, Michael Preston "Chappy" Ebert III, and South Ebert. Mike had many other close friends from all over that considered him family. Mike will miss his loved ones almost as much as he will miss his opportunity to vote for Donald Trump. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to the American Cancer Society, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), or the American Humane Association. A service celebrating Mike's life will be held at the Cathedral of St Luke and St Paul, 126 Coming St, Charleston SC on Tuesday February 9th at 1:00 pm. Jan and I were sorry to hear about Mike. I met both Mike and Bill in the late 50's when they were attending USC, as they were both friends of my brother, Bubba. They were living off of Millwood Ave. in Dr. Durham's apartments and both drove white T-Bird convertibles. They were both good looking guys with great personalities and even though they were twins, they were very close and always together. They wound up with the infamous pink house off of Rosewood Drive. Mike was alot like Bubba, outgoing, charismatic and could sell ice cream to an Eskimo. He will be missed by many and we were honored to have known him.
