It was such a honor to share and be a part of Michaels life, even if for only a short time....both as one of his nurses and as a friend. I learned so much from him about strength, faith and determination. No matter how bad his day had been ,,,he always had a smile for me ....and made me laugh. He had a heart as big as the ocean he loved so dearly. We will miss Mike...but never forget him and how he touched our lives. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with Cheryl, his family and friends in this time of loss. Donnie and Penny Bruns

To Cheryl Mathis: Thinking of you and praying God will help heal your broken heart. You were a wonderful companion and I'm sure your love for him is what gave him the strength to fight as long as he could. I know you will miss him but be thankful that you know he is in heaven today.

Uncle Mike was and still is my second best role model next to my dad. He had a profound impact on my life in the small town of elloree. He would take me to charleston almost every weekend to do a little of every thing. He would take us deer hunting with the club and duck hunting just me, my brother and him. He shared with me many great things in life. Part of him lives on in me and my brother. I got the luck with girls part and my brother got the comedy part. I love you Mike.
