Melvin Richardson, Jr. N. CHARLESTON, SC - Melvin Richardson, Jr., affectionately known as "Junior", was born September 22, 1949, in Charleston, SC, to the late Melvin Richardson, Sr. and Hessie (Anderson) Richardson. He was the oldest of three children. Melvin transitioned to God's heavenly home on Friday, August 26, 2022 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 12:00 noon at W.M. Smith-McNeal Funeral Home, Inc., 2119 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC. Interment services will follow at Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery, North Charleston, SC. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 12:00 noon- 6:00 pm at W. M. Smith-McNeal Funeral Home, Inc. Melvin was educated in the public schools of Charleston County. He worked as a mechanic for several years and drove taxi for Everready Taxi Company. Melvin could listen to your car and tell you whatever was wrong with it. Among his many talents, he was also a painter and demolition worker. In his later life, he became a helper at the Exxon Gas Station, where he did odd jobs and socialized with the employees. Melvin was a very kindhearted and quick-witted individual. He was an avid Miami Dolphins football fan. Melvin did not complain. Even in his moments of illness, Melvin would always insist he was doing fine. Surviving to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are one sister, Elizabeth Richardson and a brother, Johnny Richardson; three nieces, Carla Richardson, Demier (Dwayne) Sanders, and Ekima Richardson; two great-nieces, LaShonda and Imani Richardson; one great-great-nephew, Malique Chaney; cousins, Jeannie McKinnon, Kimberly Freeman, Felicia Shedge, Keisha Baker, Hank Nelson and Jamie Nelson, all of Durham, NC, Ivery Anderson, New Haven, CT; and other loving relatives and dear friends from Charleston and Orangeburg, South Carolina.
