Melvin Bryant Obituary

BRYANT, MELVIN Y. SR., 87, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011.

He was a former Assistant Director for the city of Louisville, Sanitation Department. He served overseas in the World War II Army and was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Jeffersonville, IN, and The Kentucky Thoroughbred Elks Lodge # 1598 and was a former Investigator for the N.A.A.C.P.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Martin Timothy and Melvin Bryant Jr.

Survivors: his wife, Charlotte Bryant; children, Jerris Mallory, Shelia Harris (Richard), Deborah Bryant, and Dr. Karen Krigger (Wayne); sisters-in-law, Mrs. Homer Bryant and Mrs. Thomas Bryant and a host of nieces; nephews; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral: noon Monday at A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home Southeast, 4501 Bardstown Rd. Visitation: 10 a.m. - noon Monday at the funeral home. Burial at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Radcliff, KY.

As a teenager, I use to sit with the boys when Mr. Bryant left for work. He was a kind and generous employer. He was a good neighbor always willing to lend a helping hand.

May the family find comfort in knowing that he suffers no more and rests peacefuly in God's arm. We will be lifting you in prayer and please let us know if we can assist you in any way.
