Melanie Oakman Obituary

You still break my heart.

We went to Citadel Square together, around seventh grade. You were tall, blonde, blue eyed, and athletic. Seems you got the basketball in the hoop every time.
We'd spend the night at your grandmother's house in downtown Charleston, exploring all the old rooms.
I never met your horse but to me, you were free and lovely as one.

Had some good times through high school, and on James Island growing up around Mel. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family....

In high school, we tried to boil some live crabs but felt sorry for them so carried them back in a bucket to the sea.
You were that kind of person. I miss you.

RIP Melanie. I know you are in a better place.

So sad that you are gone, Melanie. You were a good friend to me all those years ago. Condolences to family and friends!

Its an almost defeating challenge to keep up with someone who lives and loves life as much as Miss Oakman did.

Dear Family & Friends of Melanie:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Melanie was a dear friend who we have missed for a long, long time. My son Ashley, who died in December of 2007, and I visited Mel when she was first admitted to the hospital but were never able to tell her good by but both Ashley & I cried that day as I did Saturday when reading the paper.

I remember Melanie from my days at Ft.Johnson HS. She was a lot of fun to be around.

I loved Melanie very much and am sad to hear of her passing. She was an extraordinary person who taught me a great deal about life. My sympathy to all who cared about her.
