Max Spangler Obituary

Max Spangler Moncks Corner - Max Earl Spangler, 90, of Moncks Corner, SC, a retired salvage machinist for Westvaco, died Thursday morning at his residence. His funeral will be 12:00 Noon Monday, April 24, 2017, in the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Agape Hospice, 2680 Elms Plantation Blvd., Ste. 101, N. Charleston, SC 29406. Mr. Spangler was born October 14, 1926, in Shelby, NC, a son of Joseph William Spangler and Gertrude Moore Spangler. He was a Navy veteran of WW II, a member of the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner, and a member of Berkeley Lodge #269 AFM. He was a master builder and welder and enjoyed salvaging things. Mr. Spangler loved going to craft shows with "Ms. Louise", and they also enjoyed traveling and camping. He loved children and was "everybody's granddaddy", and he enjoyed going to softball games and watching his grandchildren play. Mr. Spangler also enjoyed deer hunting. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Spangler, Jr., and a grandchild, Johnny W. Pessier. He was the widower of Louise Grubbs Spangler... Surviving are, three daughters, Sherrill Hammond of Orangeburg, Dayna Pessier and Her husband, Billy, of Cross, and Nanette McGee and her husband, Joe, of Ladson; two brothers, Charles Spangler of Columbia, and Tom Spangler of Charleston; five grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
