Mavis Rains Obituary

Mavis Stivers Rains Charleston - Mavis Stivers Rains, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, loving wife of Dr. Theodore C. Rains, entered into eternal rest Sunday, June 25, 2017. The family will receive friends Friday, July 21, 2017, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Mavis was born November 14, 1925, in Cropper, Kentucky, daughter of the late Sherley B. Stivers and Ramey Clark Stivers. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and her Master's Degree in Business Education from University of Tennessee. Mavis had a long career in public education teaching business and data processing classes to high school students in Kentucky, Clinton, Tennessee and Montgomery County, Maryland. She and her husband relocated to Charleston in 1990. She and her husband were members of Ashley River Baptist Church where she was an active volunteer. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, three daughters, Connie Hayes of North Charleston, SC, Diane Haines of Germantown, MD, and Pam Conrad of Leonard town, MD, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
