Maury Scarborough Obituary

Maury S. Scarborough, Jr. SUMMERVILLE - Maury S. Scarborough, Jr., 56, of Summerville, husband of Cindy Murphy Scarborough, was called to the arms of his Lord and Savior after fighting an extended illness on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. At the time he was called home, Maury was surrounded by family, friends and the caring 4th floor staff at Trident Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 o'clock AM at Cathedral of Praise, North Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cathedral of Praise, 3790 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418 or The Homeless Veterans Program (Operation Independence), Goodwill Industries of LSC, 2150 Eagle Drive Bldg. 100, N. Charleston, SC 29406. Maury was born on February 16, 1957 in Ft. Meade, MD, son of Maury S. Scarborough, Sr. and Gail Miller Scarborough of Camden, DE. Maury proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a sonar technician assigned to the John Adams and James K Polk nuclear submarines. Maury finished his military career as a recruiter, stationed in Lansing, Michigan. At the time of his passing, Maury was employed as a Central Office Technician for Windstream Communications. Maury met and fell in love with his soul mate, Cindy and they married on January 23, 1981. Throughout their marriage, he was blessed with 3 children and 2 grandsons. Maury beamed with joy hearing the words, Pop-Pop. Maury was an active member of Cathedral of Praise and served on the Guest Services team. In his spare time, Maury spent many hours working on his landscaping "projects." Surviving in addition to his parents, and his wife, Cindy are: His son, Maury S. Scarborough, III; his daughters, Dana M. Scarborough and Megan R. Scarborough, all of Summerville; his grandsons: Kyler and Kaleb; a sister: Laura Voltmer (Bill) of Princeton, NJ; a brother: Craig Scarborough (Nicci) of Winter Springs, FL, a Grandfather, Nicholas Godinez, and several beloved brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Though Maury's love of family, friends and country will be truly missed, those whose lives he touched along the way will be forever blessed.
