Matthew Moran Obituary

Matthew "Matt" Moran JAMES ISLAND - Matthew "Matt" Charles Moran age 85, of James Island, SC entered into eternal rest on January 9, 2013. Mr. Moran was born in Roxboro, PA on June 25, 1927, the son of the late Laura Berg Moran and the late Matthew Joseph Moran. He attended Catholic school in Phoenixville, PA. Mr. Moran, a WWII Veteran, served his country honorably in the US Navy from 1944-1965. He retired to Charleston as a senior chief petty officer. His favorite pastime was fishing from the deck in his backyard, where he always caught the big one. While in the service he met and married the love of his life, Miss Minnie (Polly) L. McDaniel of Modoc, SC. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife to whom he was wed 46 years. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Moran Kimbrell of Whitsett, NC and Teresa Moran Atwood of Charleston, SC; two sons, Dennis M. Moran of Charleston, SC and Matthew O. Moran of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by 6 siblings from PA. Mr. Moran was especially close to his 2 brothers, Jerry and Bobby Moran, whom he spent many happy times with. Mr. Moran, affectionately called Pop Pop, leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Bethel United Methodist Church on Pitt St. at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be next to his wife at Live Oak Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Memorials may be sent to Mr. Moran's favorite charity, St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Flowers will be received at Bethel United Methodist Church. The family would like to convey a heartfelt thank you to Sandpiper Rehab, Hospice of Charleston, Dr. Curtis Haskins and the Savannah House for the love and care that was shown to their father.
