Mason Hayden Obituary

Mason Allen (Sam) Hayden SUMMERVILLE, SC - Entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 1, 2011, Mason Allen (Sam) Hayden, husband of Jessie Louise Lemacks Hayden of Summerville, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. & Mrs. Mason A. Hayden are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 11 am. Interment with military honors, Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Mt. Pleasant Chapel on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Sam was born February 11, 1949 in Petersburg, VA. After high school graduation he served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War. As an airplane mechanic and crew chief, Sam enjoyed Charleston so much that he chose the area as his home after being honorably discharged from the Air Force. Sam began his career in the East Cooper area by opening up his very first construction company, Foundations of Charleston. He also founded Hayden Home Builders in 1987 and East Cooper Brokers a few years later. Sam spent his 35 year career in Mount Pleasant building custom new construction homes and was well known in the industry. His beautiful homes can be seen in Wakendaw Lakes, Hobcaw Creek Plantation, Dunes West, Snee Farm, Commonwealth, Planters Pointe and Rivertowne. Sam was a hands-on builder who lived to see a finished home rise from an empty lot. Sam was also active in several churches over the years. He was a Sunday School Teacher, a Bus Ministry Director and a Music Director. He was a church starter and helped get Shem Creek Baptist off the ground. Sam and Jessie opened up the first Christian bookstore in Mount Pleasant in 1980 aptly named Christian Books and Supplies. He supported school fundraisers every chance he could. Sam was a well respected member of the community and was well liked by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Sam loved his family, fast cars, Elvis, fishing and animals. He taught his daughters many life lessons over the years, instilling an unbridled lust for life that will live on for generations to come. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, of Summerville, SC; mother, Olleen Mason Hoyle of Colonial Heights, VA; two daughters, Samantha Hayden Suiter of Summerville, SC and Kate Hayden Jackson of Brunswick, GA; three grandchildren, William Samuel Hutchins of Georgetown, KY, Elliot Leigh Suiter of Summerville, SC, Kayden Grace Jackson of Brunswick, GA and one more grandbaby on the way. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Hayden Hutchins and his grandparents, Stanley Allen and Colleen Mason. In his words: "It's just another day in paradise." In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Sam may be made to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) at 501 Front Street, Norfolk, VA 23510 or to Daystar Baptist Missions, P. O. Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

My condolences to the Hayden family. I prepared many real estate closings for Sam, and he had two daughters the same age as our two daughters. Over the years I came to know and like him. I know he will be greatly missed by many.

Jessie,
You know that I loved Sammy like he was my own brother. We had great times together, I remember most of all when we would say it was too rainey to work ,but not to go fishing. He is a brother that will be missed by me.

What a legacy to leave behind in this world: a devoted wife, two loving daughters & their spouses who loved Sammy, and the grandchildren he loved & was so proud of. He will be missed by so many, but I'm sure was welcomed Home to the loving arms of his Father, knowing no more pain, and no more sorrow.

Jessie, Samantha and Kate, I am sadden by hearing of Sammy's death. I am also a builder of 23 years and Sammy and I would bounce ideas off of each other on a regular basis. We would complain to each other about all of the changes they were imposing on us as builders. I will miss those talks. He would call me every time he purchased a new SUV or a Thunderbird so he could show it off. He loved his cars. Please accept my condolences to your family. Ours thoughts and prayers will be with you.
