Mary Elizabeth Kizer Wimberly ST. GEORGE, SC - Mary Elizabeth Kizer Wimberly, 94, widow of Wilson Wimberly entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 27, 2013, after an extended illness at the home she shared with her daughter, Liz Thompson, 608 Horne Street, St. George. She was born in the Rosinville Community of Dorchester County. She was the fifth of nine children of James Kizer and Sarah Alice Bowman Kizer. She was a 1938 graduate of St. George High School. The day after graduation, she went to work as a clerk in the Dorchester County Treasurer's Office. It was there, she met her husband of 47 years. Some years later, she was promoted to Deputy Treasurer. She continued in that position until 1979 when she was appointed Dorchester County Treasurer by Governor Richard Riley to fill the unexpired term of Clifford M. Henley. Mrs. Wimberly retired in 1981 after 43 years of service to the citizens of Dorchester County. She was a devoted employee who loved her work and the people she served. At an early age, Mrs. Wimberly joined Indian Field United Methodist Church. Later in life, she transferred her membership to St. George United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Claudia Kizer Sunday School Class and the Mary Bailey Circle, having served both as treasurer. When her health permitted, she loved volunteering with the Missions Day Program and working with the attic sale during Tea Room. She loved to travel, work in her yard, play cards, and spend time with her daughter and grandchildren at Fountain Lake. She was a dedicated care giver to members of her family. Surviving is her only child, Sarah Elizabeth (Liz) Thompson; two grandsons, Mark F. Mimms and his wife, Kim and their children, Drew and Ansley of Reevesville and Gary H. Thompson and his wife Tammy and their children, Celeste and Haskell of St. George; a sister, Ruth K. Allen of Milton, FL; sisters-in-law, Julia E. Kizer of Spartanburg and Fayetta M. Kizer of St. George; a number of beloved nieces and nephews and her caregiver, Arthur Bell Johnson. Mrs. Wimberly was predeceased by her parents, her husband and baby son, her grandson, Michael Mimms and her siblings, Eula Kizer, Ida Carn, Lillie Lowery, Richard Kizer, David Tillman Kizer, Ethel K. Ayer and Palmer Kizer. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday January 29, 2013 at St. George United Methodist Church with Reverends Michael Leonhardt and Jakie Walters officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Field United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rosinville. Serving as pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Drew Mimms and Haskell Thompson, and great nephews: Al Carn, Lee Moore, Allen Murray, and Dr. Chris Wimberly. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Hutto, Jimmy Cooner, Jim Bell, Larry Westbury, David Sojourner, Rusty Westbury, Craig Shuler, Sammy Infinger and Marion Mizzell.
